Representative Alexander Merrill Hardy

Alexander Merrill Hardy (December 16, 1847 – August 31, 1927) was an American lawyer and politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from Indiana from 1895 to 1897. A member of the Republican Party, he contributed to the legislative process during a single term in office, participating in the democratic process and representing the interests of his constituents during a significant period in American history.

Hardy pursued a career in law, establishing himself as an attorney before entering national politics. His legal background informed his public service and provided the foundation for his later role in Congress. As a practicing lawyer, he gained experience in the interpretation and application of the law, which would have been central to his work as a legislator.

Elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress, Hardy represented Indiana in the United States House of Representatives from 1895 to 1897.
