A staggering 40% of older veterans report lacking access to mobile phones due to financial or connectivity barriers—double the rate of their urban peers. This digital divide, highlighted in a study featured on the National Library of Medicine website, underscores a growing crisis in veteran connectivity.

Especially, we’ll also offer a preview of our new partnership with DAV (Disabled American Veterans) for even greater support!

Veterans have given so much to our country. Now, it’s our turn to give back.

Many veterans today face unique challenges: financial constraints, rural living conditions or limited access to digital tools. These barriers make it harder to schedule VA appointments, manage online healthcare, apply for jobs or even stay in touch with family.

  • Low-cost or even a free smartphone for veterans
  • Monthly plans with talk, text and high-speed data · Reliable service to access healthcare, job opportunities and loved ones

DAV

Many veterans today face unique challenges: financial constraints, rural living conditions or limited access to digital tools.

Our mission is simple: to serve those who’ve served. We focus on helping underserved communities, and veterans are a big part of that.

2.1 Free or Low-Cost Devices

Once approved, eligible veteran applicants can get a free government phone. They are ideal for older veterans or anyone who wants straightforward functionality.

Besides the free options, veterans can upgrade to premium models or even newer phones, as well as select tablets, all at discounted rates. Some popular models with the best features include:

  • Long-lasting battery phones: iPhone XR, iPhone 13, iPhone Samsung Galaxy A42 5G, etc.
  • Phones with Hearing Aid Compatibility: iPhone SE, iPhone 13, etc.
  • Tablets: iPad 6, Galaxy Tab A, Galaxy Tab E, etc.

2.2 Service Plans Tailored to Everyday Needs

Our plans come with unlimited talk and text, plus generous high-speed data, perfect for:

  • Telehealth and VA appointments
  • Streaming and video calls with family
  • Job searching or accessing veteran services

We offer two main Lifeline plan types:

  • Device + service plans (Standard, Plus, Premium, or Unlimited): These include a low-cost or even free phone for veterans and monthly service. Higher-tier plans offer more data for a small monthly fee.

  • Bring your own device plan (Lifeline Data Boost Plan): Already have a phone? This plan provides data and service only, with no device included – just what you need to stay connected.

3.1 Eligibility Criteria

  • VA Veterans Pension or Survivors Pension Benefit
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Medicaid
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance

Or if your household income is at or** below 135%** of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Note:* Eligibility requirements may vary slightly depending on your state, so it’s a good idea to check your local Lifeline guidelines before applying.*

Ready to get started? Here’s what to do:

Step 2: Choose a plan that fits your needs and select a free device if it’s included with your plan.

**Step 3: **Fill in the application form and upload documentation if necessary. This could be a VA benefit letter, SNAP approval, or recent tax return.

**Step 4: **Wait for approval. Once accepted, you’ll receive your device by mail within 5 – 7 business days, preloaded with your plan.

That’s all there is to it – simple and straightforward!

3.3 Top 3 Tips for Success

  • Make sure your name and address on all documents match exactly.
  • Check that your documents are up-to-date and easy to read.

It’s a perfect alternative for veterans who may not qualify for the VA Free Tablet program but still need reliable, no-cost connectivity.

Although the full rollout is still underway, we encourage veterans to prepare now by gathering documents and checking eligibility. Stay tuned for more updates as this meaningful partnership unfolds.
