2. What Programs are Available in Ohio?
The Lifeline program is a federal assistance program that was initiated in 1985 to ensure that low-income Americans can access phone service in order to stay connected.
The Affordable Connectivity Program, or ACP, was also a government-funded program that provided low-income households with access to internet and broadband connectivity services. However, the program ceased operations in June 2024 after the Congress cut additional funding.
3. Who Can Get a Free Government Phone in Ohio?
- Household income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
- The individual participates in one of the following government benefit programs:
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Medicaid
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
- Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit Programs
- Tribal-specific programs: Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, Tribally-Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TTANF), Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), Head Start
