Your Next Representative: Rooted in North Alabama

Son, little brother, devoted husband, father of 3 amazing girls, master plumber and gas fitter, and founder and operator of a local small business - Andrew was born and raised in Huntsville. The son of a local attorney and school teacher/administrator, he grew up on the family farm just outside of town and also in Blossomwood. A product of Huntsville City Schools, Andrew graduated from Lee High in 1998.

Hard Work and Integrity

From $10/Hour to Job Creator

He attended Boston University (BFA ‘03) and spent the following seven years in New York City, returning South in 2010. After meeting his wife, Andrew left a successful career in the restaurant business and started over, at 32 years old, as a $10 an hour plumber’s helper, working his way up in the trades over the following 7 years. He started his company, Whole Home Solutions, in 2019 with nothing but his two hands, an old GMC Yukon, and the conviction that hard work, performed well and with integrity, would lead to success. Six years later, with 6 work trucks, and 7 tremendous employees, he holds tight to that same conviction.

Leadership That Listens

Reclaiming North Alabama’s Promise

Andrew is running for Congress because he believes we must Reclaim our Voice, American Trust, and our Future. He will always meet people where they are - in their anger, their fears, their hopes and their dreams. He truly believes North Alabama can lead the nation by showing what is possible when we are both tough and principled, empathetic and kind. This critical moment requires a new, authentic kind of representative, not a career politician. He’s asking for the chance to serve the 5th Congressional District of Alabama. He’s asking for your vote.

My Personal Journey

Son. little brother. devoted husband. Proud father of three incredible girls. Founder and operator of Whole Home Solutions. Loving “Dad” of Leonard the 3 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback and Carla & Annie the backyard chickens! I am truly blessed beyond measure, but how did I get here? Where are we? And where are we going?

Born June 19th, 1980 in Humana Hospital on Governors Drive - the 5th District is home. Raised on our farm (just outside of town) and in the heart of Blossomwood Huntsville has shaped me all my days. But I also shaped my own, unique, Huntsville path. When my mother returned to teaching in 1988 at ASFL, Davis Hills - I asked to go with her. After returning to Blossomwood Elementary, followed by 2 years at Huntsville Middle - I chose to go to AAA at Calvary Hills for 8th grade. From there to 4 tremendous years at Lee High School - graduating in 1998. I have always sought out and been strengthened by diversity of community and experience.

And I have journeyed: the better part of a year, over the course of my childhood, was spent in Europe visiting our Belgian grandmother. I lived half a year in Taiwan working as a stunt man in a Wild West Stunt show. I rode my bike to Somerville, MA. to sell Christmas trees at Ricky’s Flower Market every Christmas season, all four years while at Boston University. I spent a semester in London studying at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.

Following graduation (BFA ‘ 03), I moved to New York City - living the first year and half on East 110th St. in Spanish Harlem - regularly playing pick up basketball at the school yard next door with my neighbors. I worked hard to (eventually) become a member of Actors’ Equity, the Screen Actors’ Guild, and AFTRA - working professionally on stage, in Soap Operas, and commercials - but also as a bartender at PJ Clarke’s - one of the last real saloons in NY - one of the best in the world.

After 7 years, I left NY to attend law school at the University of Alabama on scholarship, but quickly discovered that was not the right path for me. While complet- ing a Permaculture design training program in California, I received and accepted an offer to help create and open the first FIVE restaurant in Tuscaloosa. We opened in January of 2011 and it is still thriving today. Still searching, I accepted an internship at Growing Power - in Milwaukee, WI - a community first urban farm located 1/2 mile from the largest housing project in the city. Upon completion, I returned South - to Birmingham to help open and run the second FIVE restaurant.

The best was soon to come. Soon after we opened FIVE Birmingham, my father connected me with a (beautiful, strong, and intelligent) young attorney in Huntsville, Bethany Harrison. My life distilled, my highest purpose and path revealed. I moved home in 2012, leaving my profession of ten years behind, and at 32 years old entered the trades as a $10 an hour plumber’s helper. Fourteen short months after our first date, Bethany and I wed in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church on Greene Street. (The same building where I attended pre school, and that had nurtured Bethany her entire life.)

We spent our first year of marriage in the same farm house in which I grew up. We planted a garden and planned, buying our first home in town in 2014 at the end of Owens Drive - where we dreamed of starting our family. Virginia “Harrison” Sneed was born in 2015 and 14 blurry months later her baby sister Frannie joined us. Our incredible girls grew, and happy years passed. Hard work and experience yielded confidence and expanded capabilities in my field, and after 7 years at HC Blake, it was time to create the company I believed I could. In March of 2019 I founded and set to operating Whole Home Solutions. Our early assets consisted of my two hands, Bethany’s old GMC Yukon, and an uncompromising conviction that hard work, performed well, with integrity, for a fair price would lead to success. Six years later, we have six work trucks, seven incredible employees, and that same founding conviction.

Our youngest daughter completed our family in 2020 - bringing more joy and laughter than we could have imagined. We have moved to our forever home - which turns out to be just a few houses from where I was raised. Our children attend Randolph School, our work is fulfilling and fruitful, we are raising our daughters in our church, we teach sunday school and are deeply involved in their lives and activities and our treasured community…And that…should be that.

Why I Must Act

But there is also something else. There is something wrong. Something that we cannot shake and, for the sake of our children, we cannot and will not ignore.

My wife and I are truly concerned that the very fabric of our nation is fraying. If we are honest, I believe we all feel it. We find ourselves in the midst of a truly unprecedented storm of political and societal siloing and “othering”, world changing AI technologies that will permanently alter our local, national, and global economy, and maybe most concerning of all - an all too apathetic, screen and social media addicted generation with no skin in the game of what America is supposed to be.

We have unchecked corporate money and influence over in political system coupled with career politicians who so often seem unwilling or incapable of putting our district’s, much less our nation’s interests before their own. Leadership devastates our age-old alliances and empowers the very countries that are thrilled to see America wane. Whether from ignorance, or worse, they cheerlead as the very system that our forebears bled to create, which generations of Americans fought and died for… that allowed us to ever so slowly over 250 years move towards the “more perfect union” we used to aspire to be…is discarded before our very eyes

In short, the moment is critical.

But the darkest hour is just before dawn.

A Vision for Leadership

I am running for Congress because I believe we require new leadership that has a vision and belief in not only what North Alabama can accomplish, but what we can show the entire Nation. We Must be tough, principled, and brave. This isn’t a job for a career politician. Dale isn’t strong enough. This moment requires a new, authentic kind of representative: One who understands that all people deserve to be met where they are : in their anger, in their worry, in their fears and in their hopes. A represen- tative that will hear them. A representative that truly believes that if we will agree to work together again - we can rise to meet this moment.

Big problems require big solutions …but isn’t that exciting? I believe North Alabama, as much as anywhere in this incredible nation, is capable of leading us to better days. Because unlike some other parts, we haven’t lost our grit or our common sense. We haven’t lost our faith. Indeed, it is what this campaign is about.

Our Way Forward

Ours is a government created by and for the people. I have faith that if we will fight to reinvigorate that purpose - with leaders who know it is their job to serve the people - we can remember again what it meant for the entire world for America to be that shining city on a hill. We can not only right this ship - but set sail again towards shimmering horizons that seem lately to have faded from view.

North Alabama can lead the way. We can lead the way forward - together. For my children and for yours, we have to.

Our Way Forward

Reclaim Our Voice

Restore and preserve the balance of power. Be an accessible and accountable voice for the 5th District.

Renew American Trust

Term Limits and Campaign Finance Reform

Congress should not be a career, but a nonpermanent public service

Career politicians and unlimited corporate / PAC influence on our political system are not in the interests of North Alabama, or the nation.

Congress must radically and transparently reform to earn the right to be trusted by the American people again.

I pledge to push for and support the following:

  • A Constitutional Amendment (e.g. S.J. Res. 1) that limits the number of terms any member of congress may serve, and considers maximum age limits for holding certain public offices
  • A Constitutional Amendment (e.g. HJR54) that reverses Citizens United, putting power back in the hands of the people
  • Legislation to further limit (or restrict) former members of congress from becoming corporate lobbyists (e.g. For the People Act of 2019 & 2021)
  • Legislation to enhance scrutiny of (or eliminate) the trading of stocks by members of congress

I will always serve my constituency above politics, or myself.

Represent Working People, Families, and Small Business

Blue Collar Blue Dog

I am a plumber, mechanical contractor, and small business owner. I deeply understand what it is to work in service industries and the trades because it is my lived experience for more than 25 years.

North Alabama is stronger when working class people are treated with dignity and respect, and have the opportunity to thrive.

I will fiercely advocate for the needs of workers above the greed of the 1%.

Rebuild Unity

Reject our Divisions

Mainstream and Social Media have amplified unserious leaders and fringe agendas in both major political parties that rarely reflect the views of the majority of the people. North Alabama needs leaders who understand that their personal and political views do not and cannot invalidate the views and experiences of others. For the future of our nation we must break the echo chambers that are hindering our ability to see others. All views must be heard and considered.

Empathy, respect, decency, and truth MATTER.

I will meet people where they are, honoring (not dismissing or belittling) their concerns, their fears, their hopes, and their dreams.

I pledge to encourage, facilitate, and participate in respectful and productive dialogue across communities in our district in efforts to bring about an even stronger and more united North Alabama.

I will serve with humility, respect, and integrity.

Resurrect Justice

Equality and Opportunity for All

Generations of black Alabamians, women, and marginalized communities have fought and bled for justice and equal opportunity. Our current representative’s tacit approval of this administration’s push to whitewash history and roll back progress cannot continue. Even if too slowly and inconsistently, for 250 years our system of government has allowed us to advance towards a more perfect union and we cannot accept the dismantling of those protections.

The very best of our nation is our diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. I will strongly reject the continued attack on these aspirational American values.

There is no American justice without a strong and independent Judicial Branch. The attacks on our judiciary are attacks on our democracy and they must stop.

Equally, the highest code of ethics must be both mandatory and enforceable for the Supreme Court to insure its integrity of the Supreme Court. To this end, I will support and advocate for legislation such as S.359, the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act.

I will be a constant ally and advocate for all people of North Alabama.

Refocus our Economy and our Future

Lead the way forward

Our representative should not cheerlead when North Alabamans’ jobs are cut.

Key Economic Priorities:

  • I will not support cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, or VA Benefits
  • We can and must significantly reduce the deficit, but strategically, and without chaos
  • Working class people must have access to health and health care, quality education, paid leave, quality affordable housing, and the ability to one day comfortably retire - our economy and our nation is failing without this

Advances in AI and robotics are an existential threat to all sectors of our economy, but especially working class people. I will push for and support legislation that protects people and our economy over corporate profits.

Our younger generation is in crisis. They not only need someone to believe in them, but something to believe in. North Alabama can show the nation how to re-engage and energize our future leaders. I will advocate for and support programs to incentivize public service that can both profoundly strengthen our entire economy, and inspire and unite a generation.

I will champion an economy for our district that protects our incredible assets, redefines possibility, and reawakens purpose.
