Angela Gonzales-Torres is a dedicated community advocate and public servant running for Congress in CA-34. A born-and-raised working-class Angeleno, brought up in Section 8 housing by a single mother after her father’s deportation, Angela understands her community’s most pressing issues because she’s lived through them. Angela serves as an Advocate for Equity & Justice Academic Counselor at Pasadena City College’s CORE program, supporting formerly incarcerated and system-impacted students in navigating higher education. She is also the Program Director for a permanent affordable housing project in Altadena assisting elderly tenants in recovery efforts following the recent fires. As President of the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council, she led community-driven efforts around housing displacement and public safety, learning how to navigate local bureaucracies, move policy forward, and build coalitions that centered residents. She also serves on Metro’s Public Safety Advisory Committee, amplifying the voices of her community at a regional level.

Who is Angela Gonzales-Torres?

Born and Raised in CA34 Angela Gonzales-Torres is a daughter of a deportee, raised by a single mom in and around Northeast LA. With roots in Highland Park, where generations of her family have lived, worked, and built community, her personal experience in LA isn’t just a footnote—it’s the foundation of her values, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to fighting for working families.

Advocate for Change Angela, as a Chicana Anthropologist, combines her academic work at UCLA with her advocacy at Pasadena City College to research how systems like immigration and incarceration tear families apart—particularly in Black and Brown communities. She applies this understanding in projects focused on healing, abolition, and organizing for transformative justice.

Local Elected Official Angela served as President of the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council, where she helped lead efforts to resist displacement, protect renters, and hold developers and city officials accountable. She has also served as an intern with the LA City Mayor’s office and as a Metro Public Safety Advisory Committee member, and continues to amplify the voices of others with community and student-led organizing.

Community Focused Angela is running for Congress because while the district is culturally rich and resilient, it lacks the federal protections and access necessary to ensure all residents thrive. Neighborhoods within CA34 have the highest number of eviction notices, largest costs of incarceration, and growing rates of unhoused LAUSD students. We deserve a leader who will put us first. Angela is ready to continue to fight for positive change.

WE ARE FIGHTING FOR…

Housing for All

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. That’s why I’m fighting for bold, people-first housing policies — from expanding emergency rental assistance and housing vouchers to supporting community land trusts and rapid rehousing programs. We’re tackling homelessness before it starts and building permanently affordable housing that puts people over profit.

Economic Dignity & Security

Too many families in CA-34 are working harder than ever, yet falling further behind. From skyrocketing living costs to stagnant wages, the economic deck is stacked against us. Angela is ready to flip the script — starting with a Guaranteed Basic Income pilot for working families, stronger protections for gig workers, expanded leave and childcare support, and bold, community-driven solutions shaped

Healthcare for All

Healthcare is a human right — not a luxury. Angela is fighting to make that a reality by co-sponsoring Medicare for All, investing in mental health and addiction care, and strengthening local clinics that serve everyone, regardless of immigration status or income. Because no one should go without care in one of the richest countries on Earth.

Climate Action

Environmental justice can’t wait, especially in CA-34, where low-income and immigrant communities bear the brunt of pollution and climate change. Angela is fighting for a bold, community-driven Green New Deal that prioritizes renewable energy, unionized green jobs, and neighborhood-level projects like rooftop gardens, urban farms, and native plant healing spaces.

Education & Youth Empowerment

Too many students in CA-34 are held back by underfunded schools, inaccessible higher education, and cycles of debt. Angela is ready to change that with a bold education agenda — from fully funding early childhood and special education to canceling student debt and making public college tuition-free. She’s also pushing to make higher education a pathway to rehabilitation and opportunity for all.

Immigration Reform & Community Advocacy

CA-34 is powered by immigrant families — but our laws haven’t caught up to that truth. Angela is championing a humane, inclusive approach to immigration: a pathway to citizenship, expanded services for mixed-status households, and investments in legal aid and community integration.

Pro-Peace Foreign Policy

For decades, our government has waged endless wars abroad with bipartisan support in Washington.
