Meet Mallory McMorrow

Mallory McMorrow is a Democrat with backbone who knows how to stand up, fight back against right-wing Republicans, and win.

She helped flip the Michigan state senate blue for the first time in nearly 40 years and then passed laws to reduce gun violence, raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, and repeal the state’s abortion ban.

Now, she’s running for the U.S. Senate because Donald Trump has put this country in a constitutional crisis and she believes that we need a new generation of leaders ready to stand up to Trump to protect our democracy and our fundamental rights and freedoms, stop Trump and the Republicans from gutting Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security, and fight to create a 21st century economy where working- and middle-class Michiganders can get ahead instead of getting screwed.

Mallory was raised with the small-town values she lives by today. Her front door was never locked, and kids from the neighborhood were always welcome to grab a snack, stay for dinner, or spend the night. Her mother worked full time, raised four kids and cared for her grandmother, who moved in when she was stricken with multiple sclerosis. The definition of hard work and selfless service, Mallory’s mom still found time to bring the community together for an annual town-wide yard sale and take Mallory and her siblings to volunteer at the local soup kitchen.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, at 12 years old, Mallory got her first job serving coffee at BINGO night at the local volunteer firehouse. By 16, she was a manager at a local family-run grocery store. She worked as a bartender and in various jobs on campus as she earned her degree from the University of Notre Dame, where she was nicknamed “car girl” by her classmates and in her senior year won an international car design competition. But when she graduated in the middle of the Great Recession of 2008 with no healthcare, no job prospects, and student loans coming due, Mallory went from designing cars to spending a few nights sleeping in the backseat of one as she tried to land on her feet.

Refusing to give up, Mallory became an industrial designer, creative director, and small business owner, working on concepts for everything from cars to Hot Wheels to documentary films to commercials, live events, and branding for local businesses. She never planned to enter the political arena, but fed up after the 2016 election – and driven by a belief that politics should be about service, not self-interest – she googled, “how to run for office.” Through sheer determination, she inspired hundreds of local volunteers to help her swing a Republican-held state Senate seat by 20 points, flipping a district that included Mitt Romney’s home town.

When a right-wing state senator baselessly referred to Mallory as a “groomer” in a fundraising email, she took to the floor of the Michigan state Senate and, in a now-viral speech, she memorably declared that, “we will not let hate win.” The speech showcased her courage and moral clarity, leading James Carville to say “I’d show this tape as an instructional video,” and the New York Times to label her “one of the Democratic Party’s most promising young talents.”

She used her newfound platform to help flip control of the Michigan Senate for the first time in 40 years, then she got to work: strengthening unions and raising wages, getting rid of the retirement tax on seniors, expanding civil rights, repealing the state’s 1931 abortion ban, banning child marriage, tackling gun violence, expanding affordable housing, feeding kids in schools, and so much more.

Mallory will bring that same determination to deliver for Michigan families to the U.S. Senate.

She and her husband Ray were married in Detroit’s Eastern Market. Along with their young daughter and rescue dog, they’re proud to call Royal Oak home.

Why She’s Running

I’m ready to fight. Are you?

This is an existential moment for our country. We’re staring down a Trump administration that’s tearing apart what holds our democracy together. They’re coming after our rights and freedoms. They’re weaponizing your rightful fear and anger. They’re making the wealthiest even richer while leaving the rest of us further and further behind. This isn’t business as usual, so we can’t operate like it is. The politics of the past won’t cut it. We need a new generation of leaders who will fight back against the Trump administration and build a better version of the economy where regular people can get ahead.

We didn’t get here overnight. No matter where I go across the state, I hear similar stories – from Michiganders of all ages, all backgrounds, and all walks of life: “I did everything right but I’m still getting screwed.” You worked hard in school, got a job or went to college, you played by the rules, so why does it always feel like you’re barely getting by? Too many people say they still can’t afford to buy a house. They can’t dig out of debt. The cost of everything just keeps rising, but wages don’t. They can’t save, can’t afford to start a family, can’t even think about retirement. A vacation? Not likely.

To protect what we have, fix what’s broken, and build something better, we need to fight. And when we do that, we can make life better for every Michigander.

I’ve always believed that the most important role of any elected official is to listen first and then solve problems based on what you hear - to dig in deep to learn what keeps you up at night, what challenges you face, and what I can do as your legislator to help remove hurdles, fix what’s broken, and get us on the path that you hope for ahead.

The reason I got into this race so early is so that we have time to write that vision together. As I travel the state and get to know Michiganders across every corner of both peninsulas, we’ll keep building out what you see here.

What will you fight for? Tell me about it. Then let’s go get it done, together.

Mallory’s Agenda for Michigan

Cost of Living

I’m focused on bringing down the cost of living so people can actually get ahead—not just get by. I’m fighting to lower housing costs, expand access to child care, and make health care, prescription drugs, and education more affordable.

Agenda

  • Follow Michigan’s lead by raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 an hour and tie it to the rate of inflation going forward, so earnings keep pace with rising costs
  • Cut taxes for middle- and working-class families
  • Expand the Earned Income Tax Credit and pay families monthly so working people can actually keep more of what they earn
  • Safeguard Social Security so that it’s protected from threats of reduction. You pay into Social Security now. You deserve to know that it’s guaranteed to be there when you retire
  • Simplify tax filing and make IRS Direct File available for all so you don’t have to pay for costly tax preparation services

Track Record

  • Expanded the Earned Income Tax Credit fivefold letting families keep an additional $750 per year of their hard earned money
  • Eliminated the Snyder-era retirement tax on seniors - putting $1000 back into the pockets of 500,000 households
  • Cosponsored legislation to cut auto insurance rates by 10%
  • Eliminated the asset test for SNAP benefits, reducing red tape and paperwork for health department case workers and delivering food security to more Michiganders
  • Helped increase the minimum wage in Michigan to $15/hour by 2027 and pegging the wage to inflation thereafter to ensure wages always keep pace with costs, and passed the strongest earned paid sick leave benefits in the Midwest, ensuring every worker in Michigan can afford to take time off when they’re sick
  • Passed legislation ensuring veterans can access the benefits they are entitled to without being charged excessive fees or being given bad advice, and protecting them from scammers seeking to take advantage

Economy

I’m fighting to build an economy that rewards work, not wealth. That means cutting taxes for working families, raising the minimum wage, and making big corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share. And I’m leading efforts to invest in small businesses, job training, and the next generation of American innovation so more people can get ahead and stay ahead, no matter what the future holds.

Agenda

  • Make big corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share in taxes, and stop rewarding companies for outsourcing jobs, executing stock buybacks while laying off employees, spiking CEO pay without raising worker pay, or stashing profits offshore
  • End the carried interest tax loophole that allows hedge funds to avoid billions in taxes
  • Expand access to credit and capital for small businesses and entrepreneurs by expanding support for Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and community banks
  • Implement a strategic, fair trade policy that encourages and promotes more jobs to stay in Michigan, not blunt punitive tariffs that drive up the cost of everyday goods while punishing our allies
  • Work in partnership with the state legislature to find solutions to streamline state and federal regulatory requirements and make it more seamless for Michiganders to start and operate a small business or start-up in Michigan
  • Implement tax credits and subsidies for small- and medium-sized businesses to help them adapt to a federal minimum wage raise without cutting jobs or hours – supporting the entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to do the right thing by their workers
  • Take Michigan’s work for small businesses national by investing in small business through programs like the state’s innovation fund which invests directly in early stage, high growth companies that will create the next generation of jobs in our state

Track Record

  • Invested millions in the state budget to help secure a new mission at Selfridge Air National Guard Base
  • Led efforts to reform Michigan’s approach to economic development to rely less on large tax breaks and incentives for companies, and invest more in small businesses, entrepreneurs, and giving more local control to the state’s regions to support the industries and efforts that make sense for them
  • Secured funding for the Revitalization and Placemaking Program, which helps local governments and developers close gaps in financing for community spaces, infrastructure, and downtown redevelopment
  • Backed the Going PRO Talent Fund, which helps Michigan employers train workers for in-demand jobs through short-term, industry-recognized credential programs
  • Cut red tape for entrepreneurs with new Business Improvement Zone (BIZ) tools
  • Supported local bars and restaurants by permanently enacting social districts and the legalization of cocktails-to-go, policy that was enacted on a trial basis during the COVID-19 pandemic that served as a lifeline of additional revenue for local businesses

Kids and Families

Our kids deserve to grow up safe, healthy, and protected. I’ll strengthen child labor laws, fight human trafficking, replace lead pipes, and hold social media and tech companies accountable for putting profits over kids’ mental health.

Agenda

  • Implement national paid family and medical leave so you don’t have to sacrifice your career to start or care for your family. The United States is currently the only industrialized nation in the entire world without any guaranteed paid maternity leave
  • Ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable childcare so you don’t have to choose between kids and your career
  • Restore the Child Tax Credit. The expanded Child Tax Credit made available through the American Rescue Plan was the single most successful child poverty-reduction program in our nation’s history, reaching record lows by cutting child poverty rates by more than half
  • Strengthen federal child labor laws to ensure kids can be kids without being taken advantage of
  • Expand access to childcare and early childhood education
  • Support funding and programs to reduce the maternal mortality rate, including access to birthing centers and doulas, address postpartum depression and mental health support
  • Improve programs to reduce human trafficking
  • Keep lead out of water that our kids drink through investments in lead pipe removal, testing, and funding for filtered drinking fountains in schools and child care centers
  • Strengthen regulations on social media and big tech companies, putting kids’ well-being over profits to reduce youth rates of anxiety and depression

Track Record

  • Banned child marriage
  • Reformed child labor laws by strengthening protections and increasing penalties for violating the Michigan Youth Employment Standards Act
  • Funded wage increases for direct care workers
  • Passed out of the Senate legislation to require all summer camp workers to complete a background check to keep our kids safe
  • Introduced legislation requiring employers to disclose their leave policy to all prospective workers in response to constituent stories of working moms having been discriminated against in the hiring process for inquiring about paid leave
  • Expanded dental screenings for kids in schools to catch issues early
  • Passed legislation requiring lead poisoning screening for all minors
  • Passed “filter first” laws to require and fund filtered drinking water fountains in all schools and childcare centers to ensure every child has access to clean, safe drinking water
  • Implemented universal free breakfast and lunch in all K-12 public schools, saving parents on average $850 per year and hours of precious time back each day while ensuring no kid goes hungry in school
  • Moved closer to Universal pre-K through significant expansion of the Great Start Readiness Program

Safe Communities

Everyone should feel safe in their community. I’ll invest in local public safety, expand mental health crisis response, and crack down on fentanyl trafficking while making sure treatment and recovery services are within reach.

Agenda

  • Increase federal funding for better local public safety through partnerships with state and local governments, so cities and towns can hire well-trained, high-integrity police officers, firefighters, and other first responders who will respect all Americans’ rights while keeping us safe
  • Expand mental health crisis response programs so law enforcement isn’t the only option in an emergency
  • Crack down on fentanyl trafficking by strengthening border enforcement and targeting the supply chain – while also expanding access to treatment and recovery services
  • Pass federal universal background checks and close loopholes that allow guns to be sold without oversight
  • Pass a federal assault weapons ban
  • Enact a federal red flag law modeled on Michigan’s to temporarily remove guns from people who pose a danger to themselves or others, because a warning sign should never turn into a tragedy
  • Pass safe storage laws to keep guns out of the hands of kids and prevent tragic, preventable shootings
  • Ban ghost guns, the untraceable firearms that have no place in our communities
  • Repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) – the federal law that grants the firearms industry immunity from liability – to hold the gun industry to the same liability standards as any other industry
  • Combat religious hate and rising antisemitism by funding educational programming, strengthening national hate crimes laws and enforcement, and ensuring houses of worship have access to security funding and resources

Track Record

  • Passed sweeping gun violence prevention legislation for the first time in Michigan history, addressing the epidemic of gun violence head-on, including:
    • Created Extreme Risk Protection Orders (or “red flag” laws) to temporarily remove firearms from people who pose a danger to themselves or others.
    • Required safe storage of firearms.
    • Expanded universal background checks.
    • Closed the domestic violence loophole to prevent violent abusers from accessing firearms.
  • Passed legislation through the Senate banning so-called “ghost guns,” untraceable homemade or kit firearms which have skyrocketed in use by criminals because they cannot be tracked or traced, by requiring all firearms be serialized and registered.
  • Backed additional funding for our law enforcement to crack down on crime and drugs with stronger fentanyl enforcement, expanded successful treatment court options to reduce recidivism, and created new protections for domestic violence survivors
  • Delivered for first responders and safer streets with major budget investments in emergency alert systems, fire station upgrades, and community-based crisis response
  • Criminalized coercion of vulnerable adults into provide sexually explicit material to keep our most vulnerable adults safe from online predators
  • Passed a comprehensive bill package to hold sexual abusers accountable and provide justice for survivors by extending the statute of limitations for criminal sexual conduct and eliminating the civil statute of limitations for a survivor to recover damages if a criminal case resulted in a conviction
  • Banned distracted driving to reduce crashes and fatalities on Michigan roads

Labor and Workforce

If you work hard, you should be able to build a career that works for you and lets you get ahead. I’ll fight to raise wages, expand job training, and ban non-compete agreements so more people can grow, move up, and get paid what they’re worth.

Agenda

  • Invest in certified apprenticeship and training programs for trades, tech, clean energy, agriculture, hospitality and more – providing avenues to pivot quickly to find a new career no matter what happens with AI or economic changes – without having to go back to 2- or 4-year programs
  • Ban non-compete agreements to stop companies from keeping workers stuck and suppressing wages
  • Guarantee and protect the ability for workers to form and join a union
  • Eliminate worker misclassification and wage theft

Track Record

  • Helped Michigan become the first state in over 50 years to repeal so-called “Right to Work,” strengthening the power of unions
  • Restored prevailing wage on public projects
  • Expanded Michigan’s unemployment benefits from a maximum of 20 weeks to up to 26 weeks, and increasing weekly payments for the first time in over two decades, ensuring Michiganders are more securely protected and able to focus more on finding their next job than making ends meet

Healthcare

Healthcare should be affordable and accessible no matter your job, income, or zip code. I’ll protect Medicare and Medicaid, lower prescription costs, create a public option, and fight to enshrine reproductive and mental health care as basic rights.

Agenda

  • Protect Medicare and Medicaid from the funding cuts we’re seeing from Donald Trump and the right-wing extremists
  • Create a public option available to any Michigander who wants it, so that your ability to get guaranteed healthcare is no longer tied to your job, your marital status, or your luck
  • Make prescriptions more affordable so they don’t break the bank
  • Treat mental health at the same level as physical health
  • Reduce the maternal mortality rate
  • Codify access to abortion, contraception, and the full scope of reproductive health care into federal law

Track Record

  • Codified the Affordable Care Act on the state level to:
    • Ensure coverage of dependents until the age of 26.
    • Prohibit denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions.
    • Guarantee inclusion of all essential health benefits, including preventative care, mental health, and emergency care.
    • Expand insurance coverage to include oral chemotherapy.
    • Require health insurance reimbursements for telehealth to be the same as for in-office visits, expanding access to care.
  • Protected reproductive freedom by repealing the 1931 abortion ban in line with the will of the voters who codified the right to abortion in the state constitution, expanded access to care by removing medically unnecessary hurdles through the Reproductive Health Act, and fought for legislation to safeguard reproductive health data and defend patients and providers from extremist threats
  • Passed legislation to create a state-level oversight board to bring down the cost of prescription drugs
  • Leveraged $4.5M in the state budget to buy and eliminate $450M in medical debt relief for 180,000 Michiganders

Education

Every kid deserves a strong start and a great public school. I’ll invest in early education, raise teacher pay, upgrade school infrastructure, and make college and trade programs more affordable so students can succeed without a mountain of debt.

Agenda

  • Ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable early childhood education, like Head Start and the Great Start Readiness Program, knowing that no investment provides greater long term returns than exposing a child to early education to give them the best opportunity to succeed in school
  • Support increased federal funding so that states can invest in public schools: raising teacher pay, upgrading aging buildings, and ensuring every school has access to high speed internet and up-to-date technology
  • Make college and trade school more affordable and accessible, so students can build a career that works for them without taking on a lifetime of debt
  • Reform federal student loans so borrowers can pay off their debt without being punished by compounding interest that traps them in endless cycles of debt

Track Record

  • Passed the largest increase in per-pupil funding in state history to improve our schools, pay teachers fairly, and improve our kids’ education
  • Championed the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, which makes college or career training more affordable for thousands of recent high school graduates across the state by providing a tuition-free skills certificate or associate’s degree at a community college, tuition for a career training program, or up to $27,500 over five years in tuition assistance to attend a Michigan public or private college or university

  • Implemented the MI Future Educator Stipend which provides $9,600 to future educators as they complete their required teaching semester
  • Invested in education by funding universal school meals, making community college tuition-free through Michigan Reconnect, and fully funded special education programs, and student teacher stipends for K-12

Immigration and Foreign Policy

We need a secure, orderly immigration system that reflects both our values and our needs. I’ll invest in border security, fight to fix the asylum process, and expand legal pathways so we can uphold the law while welcoming those who strengthen our country. We also need a foreign policy that protects American interests, strengthens our alliances, and keeps us out of forever wars.

Agenda

  • Support legislation to require all ICE officers to wear uniforms and clear identification to prevent fear and distrust with plain-clothes officers conducting raids in communities
  • Focus our immigration enforcement dollars on keeping violent criminals off of our streets, not bullying legal immigrants who came here for a better life
  • Secure the border with more agents, better technology like sensors and scanners, and modernized ports of entry to stop trafficking and bring order to entry
  • Fix the asylum process by hiring more judges and officers to clear the backlog and ensure legitimate claims are heard. Everyone seeking asylum deserves a fair hearing and legal representation in an orderly, timely fashion
  • Expand legal pathways like employment and family visas to continue attracting the best and brightest from around the world
  • Make clear that the United States will stand with its allies across the globe, strengthen NATO, and stand up to Russian and Chinese aggression
  • Israelis deserve peace and security. Palestinians deserve peace and security. And the United States should be using every ounce of our power to make that happen—now. Ultimately there must be a two-state solution, but first the current conflict must end. Here’s what I believe needs to happen next:
    • Get a continuous, sufficient flow of aid into Gaza.
    • Temporarily stop sending offensive weapons to Israel that prolong this war.
    • Ensure Hamas releases the hostages and disarms immediately.
    • Secure a permanent ceasefire to stop this humanitarian crisis and end the violence in Gaza.
    • Confront terrorism that threatens the United States and our allies around the world.
  • Expand economic and trade relationships with businesses and entrepreneurs across the globe to secure stability through economic ties and bring jobs and investments here to Michigan

Housing

Whether you’re renting your first apartment or hoping to buy a home, you should be able to find something affordable in the community you love. I’ll cut red tape, boost housing incentives, and train the next generation of builders to create more options and make sure growth doesn’t push people out.

Agenda

  • Boost housing construction by removing unnecessary red tape, streamlining zoning, and offer federal incentives for mixed-income, missing middle, and affordable housing developments
  • Revive existing housing stock to provide more affordable options that minimize developers tearing down old housing stock to build new, higher-priced homes that most people can’t afford
  • Expand the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and expand on my work in Michigan building affordable housing and revitalizing our communities

Track Record

  • Built more housing and revitalized communities through legislation expanding redevelopment tools, land bank authorities, encouraging mixed-use development, addressing “missing middle” housing, and a $50 million per year investment into affordable housing through 2026

Civil Rights, Privacy, and Voting

In the face of constant attacks from the Trump Administration on our fundamental rights and freedoms, I won’t back down. That means fighting to codify reproductive rights, strengthen civil rights protections for all Michiganders, and enact nationwide standards so every eligible American can cast a ballot safely and securely.

Agenda

  • Expand federal civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ Americans
  • Follow Michigan’s lead by enacting a federal Address Confidentiality Program to protect survivors of domestic violence and stalking
  • Pass comprehensive federal data privacy legislation to protect your identity and information online, and empower you to know what companies are doing with your data and the ability to control that usage
  • Ban partisan gerrymandering on the federal level, protecting Michigan’s nation-leading work to end gerrymandering and ensure voters can continue to choose their elected officials, not handing the reins to politicians to choose their own districts and unfairly influence elections
  • Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to prohibit discriminatory voting practices and ensure equitable access to the ballot for all Americans
  • Implement nationwide early voting standards, drawing from our work in Michigan on Proposal 2 which guaranteed a minimum of nine days of early voting and broadened access to absentee ballots
  • Mandate automatic voter registration and same-day registration across all states, expanding Michigan’s efforts to streamline the voter registration process and increase participation

Track Record

  • Expanded the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to:
    • Protect LGBTQ+ Michiganders from housing and employment discrimination.
    • Implement the CROWN Act, preventing discrimination based on natural hairstyles.
    • Repeal the ban on individuals cohabitating before marriage (believe it or not, this was still illegal!).
    • Support making Juneteenth an official state holiday.
  • Implemented reforms in line with the Prop 2 ballot initiative of 2022 to vastly expand access to and security of elections, including:
    • Providing nine days of in-person early voting.

    • Expanding ballot dropboxes to ensure there is one for every 15,000 residents throughout the state.
    • Guaranteeing paid postage on all absentee ballots.
    • Creating a permanent absentee voter registration system.
    • Enacting the ability for young people to pre-register to vote at the age of 16, ensuring their voter registration becomes active as soon as they turn 18.
  • Enacted first-in-the-nation legislation to ensure returning citizens are automatically registered to vote after completion of criminal sentences
  • Prohibited open carry of firearms at polling places and vote counting centers to reduce voter intimidation and protect the right to vote freely and securely

Clean Water, Environment, and Energy

We can take on the climate crisis and grow Michigan’s economy at the same time by building clean energy here at home, upgrading infrastructure to withstand storms and floods, and restoring our natural resources. I’ll hold big polluters accountable, protect the Great Lakes, and make sure every community has clean air and safe drinking water.

Agenda

  • Protect communities from extreme weather by investing in climate-resilient infrastructure – from flood-resistant roads to updated power grids that can withstand storms, fires, and heatwaves
  • Create good-paying jobs through support for clean energy manufacturing, environmental restoration, and climate-smart agriculture – so we tackle climate change and boost our economy at the same time
  • Hold big polluters accountable by enforcing environmental protections, eliminating subsidies for fossil fuel companies, and ensuring corporations clean up the damage they’ve caused
  • Protect the Great Lakes by strengthening clean water protections, expanding funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, tackling invasive species like Asian carp, banning toxic PFAS chemicals, and making sure every community has access to safe, affordable drinking water for generations to come

Track Record

  • Helped secure passage of the Clean Energy & Jobs Act, positioning Michigan with the strongest clean energy legislation in the Midwest, including:
    • Requiring 50% of energy to come from renewable sources by 2030.
    • Expanding rooftop solar.
    • Setting an energy storage standard of 2,500 MW by 2030 to increase reliability and stabilize Michigan’s energy grid.
    • Strengthening the regulatory authority to have a stronger voice for ratepayers in energy decisions.
    • Creating the first-in-the-nation Office of Worker and Community Economic Transition to spearhead the transition to clean energy while bringing workers and communities along to benefit.
  • Led on policies that have positioned Michigan to be #6 in the nation for clean energy jobs
  • Introduced “polluter pay” legislation to hold bad actors and corporations accountable for egregious pollution of Michigan’s water and air
  • Increased funding for removal of lead service lines throughout the state to protect Michigan’s water and keep residents healthy

Technology and Innovation

The United States should lead the world in innovation. We can make that happen and create thousands of Michigan jobs by investing in cutting-edge industries like AI, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing. In the Senate, I’ll work to expand research & development, support public-private investment, and set smart rules for emerging tech so the future is built here, not overseas.

Agenda

  • Invest in America’s innovation economy, from artificial intelligence to clean energy to next-generation manufacturing, so we stay ahead of global competitors, create good-paying jobs, and drive inclusive economic growth
  • Strengthen investment in R&D at our research universities to encourage more marketable innovations to spur our productivity, increase our number of patents, and grow the science, engineering, and tech workforce as the anchor to an advanced manufacturing economy
  • Lead on blockchain, crypto, and Web3 innovation with smart rules that protect consumers, support entrepreneurs, and ensure the next generation of technology is built here in the U.S.
  • Support public-private venture funds to increase capital investment in Michigan and maximize financial impact while encouraging entrepreneurial growth to stay in Michigan instead of leaving to find talent and capital elsewhere
  • Restore funding for critical research that leads to breakthrough medicines and technologies and helps grow our economy

Track Record

  • As Chair of the Senate Economic and Community Development committee, helped establish the Michigan Innovation Fund, which accelerates urgently needed investments in Michigan early-stage startups and marks the state’s boldest investment in Michigan entrepreneurs and innovators in more than two decades
  • Created a 10 year strategic state plan that reimagines the economic development toolkit to prioritize investment in technology, innovation, labor, transportation, rural development, education, and more

Transparency, Accountability, and Effectiveness

Our democracy only works when public service is about the public—not personal gain. I’m fighting to ban stock trading in Congress, end partisan gerrymandering, and reverse Citizens United. I’ll push for ethics rules for the Supreme Court and ensure no one—not even a president—is above the law.

Agenda

  • Refocus government on serving the people: making more services available online and ensuring that Americans who are eligible or are owed benefits receive them in a timely manner
  • Ensure transparency when taxpayer dollars are granted to private companies to make sure our communities benefit directly from those grants
  • Overhaul regulations across government agencies that create unnecessary burdens to build new roads and housing or modernize our power grid, and that prevent businesses from growing and competing globally; and so much more
  • Ban Members of Congress from trading individual stocks and profiting off their positions
  • Reform campaign finance laws to eliminate the influence of dark money by passing legislation to reverse the impact of the Citizens United ruling from the US Supreme Court that unleashed unlimited corporate money in our political system to the detriment of Michiganders and Americans
  • Implement term limits and a binding code of conduct for justices on the Supreme Court
  • Defend the rule of law and reject efforts to ignore court rulings, dismantle checks and balances, or use government power for personal retaliation
  • Ensure that no one – not a president, not a billionaire, not a cabinet member – is above the law

Track Record

  • Boosted transparency and ethics by passing law to require financial disclosure from legislators and executive office officials for the first time in state history
  • Passed legislation to open the legislature and executive branch to FOIA out of the Senate
  • Leveraged the state Senate Oversight Committee to highlight the devastating impacts of the Trump administration’s tariff and trade policy, the threats of DOGE and cybersecurity, and waning consumer confidence and the impact on the state’s economy due to unrest at the federal level
  • Strengthened regulations on asbestos removal contractors to ensure asbestos is not left behind after work is complete
  • Made elections more accessible and secure with early voting, expanded dropboxes, allowing any Michigander to vote via absentee ballot with guaranteed paid postage for absentee ballots, allowing 16-year olds to pre-register to vote so their voter registration becomes active as soon as they turn 18, and expanded ballot tracking so voters can ensure their ballot was received and accepted by the clerk
  • Protected basic rights and modernized systems – enacting laws that ensure drinking water safety in school and mandate telehealth coverage parity
