SenGov uses public records from official U.S. government websites and legislative portals. We prioritize primary sources and link directly to origin documents whenever possible.
Federal Sources
- Congress.gov for bills, member profiles, and legislative activity
- U.S. House of Representatives for House member office/contact records
- U.S. Senate for Senate office/contact records
- USA.gov for federal agency and public service references
- Federal Register for official notices, rules, and executive publications
State-Level Sources
- Official state legislature websites for current chamber membership
- Official governor office websites for executive contact and office records
- Secretary of State and election office websites for public office validation
- NCSL for legislative process references and cross-state context
Data Quality Rules
- Source priority is official government publication first, then nonpartisan civic records.
- Records are normalized into a common profile format for search and comparison.
- Contact fields are preserved in official form and not rewritten into unofficial channels.
- When a source changes, the profile is updated to match the newest official record.
Update Frequency
- High-traffic profiles and state landing pages: rolling updates.
- Broad directory refreshes: periodic batch verification.
- Urgent corrections: fast-track updates when source links or offices change.
For Publishers and Researchers
If you reference SenGov data in articles, newsletters, or civic tools, cite both:
- The original government source URL.
- The SenGov profile URL used for indexing and summary context.
Recommended attribution example: “Source: SenGov directory, verified against Congress.gov and official office websites.”
