Representative Dennis Mark Hertel

Dennis Mark Hertel (born December 7, 1948) is an American politician and lawyer from Michigan who served as a Representative from Michigan in the United States Congress from 1981 to 1993. A member of the Democratic Party, he served six consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, contributing to the legislative process during a significant period in American history and representing the interests of his constituents in southeastern Michigan.

Born in 1948, Hertel came of age during a time of substantial social and political change in the United States, developments that would later inform his interest in public service and law.
