Representative Ira Greenlief Hersey

Ira Greenlief Hersey (born March 31, 1858) was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Maine. He represented Maine’s 4th Congressional District and served as a federal legislator during the early twentieth century. Hersey’s congressional career placed him among the historical members of Congress from New England during a period of significant national change.

Hersey began his service in the U.S. House of Representatives on April 2, 1917, and remained in office until March 3, 1929. Over the course of these twelve years, he served six terms as a representative from Maine’s 4th District. During this time he was affiliated with the Republican Party and held the formal role of Representative, contributing to the work of Congress through the close of the 1920s.

By the end of his tenure in 1929, Ira Greenlief Hersey was recognized as a former member of Congress, having completed more than a decade of continuous service.
