Representative Isaac Clinton Kline

Isaac Clinton Kline (August 18, 1858 – December 2, 1947) was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania who served one term in Congress from 1921 to 1923. He represented his Pennsylvania constituency during a significant period in American history, contributing to the legislative process in the early 1920s as a member of the House of Representatives and the Republican Party.

Kline was born on August 18, 1858, in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. In his early adulthood he worked as a schoolteacher, teaching for five years before pursuing higher education. His experience in education preceded a more formal academic path and provided him with a grounding in public service and community life that would later inform his legal and political career.

Kline attended the State Normal School in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, an institution dedicated to training teachers, and continued his studies at Bucknell Academy in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He then enrolled at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, from which he graduated in 1893. His progression through these institutions reflected a steady advancement from teacher training to a broad liberal education, preparing him for professional work in the law and eventual public office.

After completing his college education, Kline studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1894. He commenced the practice of law in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, where he established himself as an attorney. His legal practice in Sunbury became the foundation of his professional life and his standing in the community, and it provided the platform from which he entered electoral politics.

Kline first sought national office as a candidate for the United States House of Representatives in 1912, but he was unsuccessful in that attempt. Persisting in his political ambitions, he ran again and was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress, serving from 1921 to 1923. During this single term in the U.S. House of Representatives, he participated in the democratic process and represented the interests of his Pennsylvania constituents at a time marked by post–World War I adjustments and significant domestic policy debates.

In 1922 Kline was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the House, bringing his congressional service to a close after one term. Following his departure from Congress, he returned to Sunbury, Pennsylvania, where he resumed the practice of law. He continued his professional activities there, maintaining his role as a member of the local bar and a figure in the civic life of his community.

Isaac Clinton Kline died on December 2, 1947, in DeLand, Florida. Although he died in Florida, he was returned to Pennsylvania for burial. He was interred in Pomfret Manor Cemetery in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, closing a life that had spanned nearly nine decades and encompassed careers in education, law, and national legislative service.
