Representative Karen Thurman

Karen Lee Loveland Thurman (born January 12, 1951) is an American educator and politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Florida from 1993 to 2003. A member of the Democratic Party, she represented her north-central Florida district for five consecutive terms in the United States House of Representatives and later served as chair of the Florida Democratic Party from 2005 to 2010. Over the course of her public career, she participated actively in the legislative process and in party leadership at the state level, representing the interests of her constituents during a significant period in American political history.

Thurman was born on January 12, 1951, and grew up in the United States during a time of substantial social and political change, experiences that helped shape her interest in public service and civic engagement. Before entering politics, she pursued a career in education, working as a teacher.
