About Governor Roger Douglas Branigin



ROGER DOUGLAS BRANIGIN was born July 26, 1902, in Franklin, Indiana. He is a graduate of Franklin College and Harvard Law School. Following in the family tradition of practicing law, Branigin joined the Stuart Law Firm of Lafayette in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army as Transportation Corps Counsel and Lieutenant Colonel from 1942-1945 and received the Legion of Merit. Public offices include: Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Johnson County, Indiana, 1926-1929; Counsel, Federal Land Bank and Farm Credit Administration, Louisville, Kentucky, 1930-1932; General Counsel, 1932-1938; Member, Indiana State Conservation Commission, 1948-1950. Active in local community affairs, Branigin served as president of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, president of Harrison Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and trustee of the Tippecanoe County Historical Association. He was elected governor in 1964 and served from 1965 through 1969. He passed away November 19, 1975.
