Representative Tara Shephard
Tara Shephard is an American politician serving as a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives for the 79th district. She was elected in November 2022 and assumed office on January 9, 2023.
Shephard is a member of the Democratic party. Her journey in education began at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice in 1998. She furthered her studies at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, earning a Master of Arts in criminal justice and corrections in 2000.
Before her political career, Shephard worked as a teacher and substance abuse counselor. She also served as a board member of the Little Rock School District from 2013 to 2015. Her dedication to service and community led her to run for office, and she was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives in November 2022.
In her current role as a State Representative, Shephard represents District 79, which includes portions of Pulaski County. As part of the 94th General Assembly, she serves on the House Public Transportation Committee and the House Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs Committee. Shephard also serves on the Joint Budget Committee.
In addition to her political career, Shephard has a professional background as a Correctional Auditor and Compliance Manager. She is also a former Little Rock School Board member and a manager at the Arkansas Juvenile Assessment and Treatment Center.
Shephard is a 7th generation Arkansan that comes from a family of sharecroppers, steel and factory workers. Her diverse background and experiences have shaped her approach to politics and public service, making her a dedicated advocate for her constituents in the 79th district.
