Steve Hurst, born around 1948, is an American politician who has been serving as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from the 35th District since 1998. He is currently a member of the Republican Party, although he was a member of the Democratic Party before 2010.

Steve Hurst, born around 1948, is an American politician who has been serving as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from the 35th District since 1998. He is currently a member of the Republican Party, although he was a member of the Democratic Party before 2010.

Hurst’s professional experience includes working with the Georgia Pacific Corporation. He is also a businessman and a former Talladega County Commissioner. He is a member of the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce and the Talladega County Chamber of Commerce.

In his political career, Hurst has put forward a bill that, if approved, would require sex offenders who are 21 years of age or older, and committed a sexual offense against a child 12 years of age or younger, to undergo permanent surgical castration before being released from custody.

Hurst ran for re-election to the Alabama House of Representatives to represent District 35 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022. His current term ends on November 4, 2026. Hurst switched parties from Democratic to Republican following the November 2, 2010, election, giving Republicans a supermajority in the Alabama House.

Over the years, Hurst has been assigned to various committees including the Agriculture and Forestry Committee, where he served as Vice Chair, the Boards, Agencies and Commissions Committee, the House County and Municipal Government Committee, and the Joint Legislative Committee on State Parks.
