Representative Rebecca Himschoot
Rebecca Himschoot is an American politician who currently serves in the Alaska House of Representatives. She represents District 2 and is not affiliated with any political party. She assumed office on January 17, 2023, and her current term ends on January 21, 2025.
Himschoot lives in Sitka, Alaska. She has a background in education, having received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Alaska Southeast and her Master of Education from Gonzaga University. Her career experience includes working as an educator.
Before her tenure in the Alaska House of Representatives, Himschoot was elected to the Sitka Assembly in 2020, where she served as liaison to the Sitka School Board and the Tree and Landscape Committee. In 2022, she was elected to represent House District 2, which includes the coastal communities from Yakutat to Hydaburg.
During her legislative service in the 33rd Legislature (2023-2024), Himschoot has been a member of several committees, including the House Corrections (Fin Sub), House Fish & Game (Fin Sub), House Public Safety (Fin Sub), House Education & Early Development (Fin Sub), House Fisheries, House Community & Regional Affairs, and House Education.
Himschoot has also sponsored several bills during her tenure, including HB 163 (FAFSA Raffle), HB 201 (Residency Requirement: Hunting, Trapping, Fishing), and HB 230 (Out-of-State Teaching Experience & Salaries). She has also co-sponsored a number of bills.
Himschoot ran for election to the Alaska House of Representatives to represent District 2 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022. Her victory was confirmed in the first round of the ranked-choice voting election, where she secured 58.5% of the total votes.
In addition to her political career, Himschoot has also served in several leadership positions in the National Education Association-Alaska and was appointed to the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development by Governor Bill Walker in 2016.
