Representative Zack Fields
Zack Fields is a member of the Democratic Party and represents District 17 in the Alaska House of Representatives. He assumed office on January 17, 2023, and his current term is set to end on January 21, 2025. Prior to this, he served in the Alaska House of Representatives District 20. His predecessor in District 17 was Andrew Josephson, and he was succeeded by Andrew Gray in District 20. The previous representative of District 20 was Les Gara.
Fields ran for re-election to the Alaska House of Representatives to represent District 17 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022. He lives in Anchorage, Alaska, and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Virginia. His professional experience includes working as an outdoors writer and as a legislative/policy staffer at the local, state, and federal levels. He has also been affiliated with Anchorage Youth Court, the Anchorage NAACP, and Knik Canoers and Kayakers.
In terms of committee assignments, Fields has been assigned to several committees over the years. For the tenure of 2023-2024, he was assigned to the House Health & Social Services Committee, House Labor & Commerce Committee, and House Rules Committee. In 2021-2022, he served as the Co-chair of the House Labor & Commerce Committee and was also a member of the House Health & Social Services Committee and House Resources Committee. Fields’ compensation includes a base salary of $50,400 per year and a per diem of $307 per day. Apart from his political career, Fields enjoys skiing, hiking, reading, and gardening. He lives in South Addition with his wife Khalial and their daughter, Zara. Before working in the legislature, Fields was a Workforce Development Coordinator for the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, an outdoors writer, a labor organizer, and a legislative staffer.
