Amish Shah is an American doctor, politician and a former Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representative. He represented District 5 from 2023 to 2024 and District 24 from 2019 to 2023. Shah was born in July 1977 in Chicago, Illinois, to immigrant parents from India.

Amish Shah is an American doctor, politician and a former Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives. He represented District 5 from 2023 to 2024 and District 24 from 2019 to 2023. Shah was born in July 1977 in Chicago, Illinois, to immigrant parents from India.

Education: Shah received his Bachelor’s and Medical degrees from Northwestern University. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley.

Political Career: Shah began his political career by defeating incumbent State Representative Ken Clark. He served in the Arizona House of Representatives, representing District 24 from 2019 to 2023. After the 2022 redistricting in Arizona, Shah’s home Legislative District was changed from District 24 to District 5. He then represented District 5 from 2023 to 2024.

Congressional Candidacy: On April 3, 2023, Shah announced his intention to run for U.S. Congress in Arizona’s 1st congressional district in the 2024 elections. To focus on his campaign, he resigned from the Arizona House in February 2024.

Electoral History: In the Arizona House of Representatives 5th District Election of 2022, Shah received 49,006 votes, accounting for 40.2% of the total votes. His fellow Democratic candidate, Jennifer Longdon, received 48,436 votes, accounting for 39.7% of the total votes. In the same election, Republican candidate Jennifer “Jenn” Treadwell received 24,262 votes, accounting for 19.9% of the total votes.

In the Arizona House of Representatives 24th District Election of 2020, Shah received 61,639 votes, accounting for 35.9% of the total votes. His fellow Democratic candidate, Jennifer Longdon, received 60,233 votes, accounting for 35.1% of the total votes. In the same election, Republican candidate Robyn Cushman received 26,099 votes, accounting for 15.2% of the total votes.
