Representative Walt Blackman

Walt Blackman is a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives, representing District 7. He assumed office on January 13, 2025, and his current term will end on January 11, 2027.

Walter “Walt” Blackman was born in 1965/1966 in Portugal while his father was serving overseas in the U.S. military. He grew up in a military family and later followed in those footsteps, serving in the United States Army for over 21 years. During his distinguished military career, Blackman rose to the rank of First Sergeant and completed multiple deployments, including combat tours in Iraq. He earned several honors, including the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal, reflecting his dedication and leadership in service to the nation. His military background instilled in him values of discipline, responsibility, and patriotism, which continue to shape his approach to public service.

Blackman’s political career began in 2018 when he was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives for District 6, making history as the first Black Republican ever elected to the Arizona Legislature. His legislative work often focused on criminal justice reform, veterans’ issues, and policies that supported families and small businesses. In 2024, Blackman returned to politics, running for the Arizona House of Representatives in District 7. He won the election on November 5, 2024, and assumed office in January 2025.
