Representative Lesley Smith

Lesley Smith is a member of the Democratic Party and currently serves in the Colorado House of Representatives, representing District 49. She assumed office on January 8, 2025, and her current term will conclude on January 13, 2027.

Lesley Smith is a scientist, educator, and public servant whose career reflects a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship, education, and civic engagement. Born in Los Angeles, California, she pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara, earning her bachelor’s degree in 1980. She later completed her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland in 1987, specializing in environmental science. Her academic background laid the foundation for a distinguished career as a research scientist at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she worked for more than three decades on issues related to water quality, aquatic ecosystems, and environmental sustainability.

In 2019, she was elected to the University of Colorado Board of Regents, representing the at-large district.
