Representative Dewey McClain
Dewey McClain is the State Representative for the 100th House District. He was sworn into office on December 5, 2013. Dewey currently acts as the president of the Atlanta North Georgia Labor Council AFL-CIO. He is also retired from the City of Atlanta, after 18 years with the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and four years with the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency. Prior to his employment with the city, Dewey was a professional football player. He played five years in the NFL with the Falcons and two years in the United States Football League (USFL) with the Oakland Invaders and Oklahoma Outlaws. He also served as a founding member and president of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) Metro Atlanta Chapter.
In 2012, Dewey received the MLK Jr. March Committee Rev. James Orange Award. He has also been honored with the AFB Community Service Award, Gwinnett County Rape Crisis Crystal Angel Award, the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) Minority Section Professional of the Year and the GRPA District 7 Professional of the Year. For his professional football career, he has been inducted into the ECU College Hall of Fame, Freedom Bowl Hall of Fame and the Atlanta Tribune Magazine Hall of Fame. He is a three-time recipient of the NFL PA Chapter of the Year award and the 2011 recipient of the Jessie Jackson Sportsman of the Year Award.
Dewey currently serves on the Board of the NFLPA Gene Upshaw Players Assistance Trust Fund, NFLPA National Former Players, Metro Atlanta United Way and Gwinnett County Parks Foundation. He is also a member of the Chick Fil-A Bowl Team Marketing and Selection Committee and has volunteered for such organizations as the American Foundation for the Blind, Sickle Cell Foundation, Special Olympics, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Georgia Council on Child Abuse, Boy Scouts of America, Boys and Girls Club, Cancer Society, United Way, U.N.C.F., Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Non-Violent Social Change, SCLC Women Inc. and the Martin Luther King Jr. March Committee. During the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Dewey served on the Original Dream Team Committee. He also served on the advisory board for the 2000 Super Bowl and the host committee for the NFLPA host committee.
One of 11 children, Dewey is originally from Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He holds a B.A. in History from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He also received minors in psychology, government, sociology and physical education.
Dewey and his wife, Linda Evans, are the proud parents of two adult daughters and the grandparents for four grandsons.
