Doug Stoner, a member of the Democratic Party, is a representative of the Georgia House of Representatives. He assumed office on January 9, 2023, representing the 40th constituency. Before this, he served the 34th constituency from January 13, 2003, to January 10, 2005.

Stoner is also a former member of the Georgia State Senate, where he represented the 6th district from January 10, 2005, to January 14, 2013. He succeeded Ginger Collins and was succeeded by Hunter Hill in this role.

Born in South Cobb, Georgia, Stoner resides in Smyrna, Georgia. He is an alumnus of Kennesaw State University. In addition to his political career, Stoner is the owner of a Dairy Queen and has served as a senior business development manager at Akins, Ltd.

In the 2018 Democratic primary, Stoner ran for District 5’s seat on the Georgia Public Service Commission, which was then held by a Republican, Tricia Pridemore. However, he lost the primary to Dawn Randolph on May 22, 2018.

Stoner’s personal life includes his wife, Della, and their two children. He attended Campbell High School before going on to Kennesaw State University.

Stoner’s political career began with his election to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2002, followed by his election to the Georgia Senate in 2004. During his tenure, Stoner served on several committees, including Economic Development, MARTOC, Retirement, State and Local Governmental Operations, Transportation, and Urban Affairs.

In August 2013, Stoner ran for Chairman of the Georgia Democratic Party. He received endorsements from Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and former Governor Roy Barnes. However, he lost to former State Representative DuBose Porter.
