Representative Gabe Okoye
Gabe Okoye is a Nigerian–American civil engineer, former chair, and a current commissioner of planning in Gwinnett County. He became a legislator elect at the 2022 US midterm elections representing Georgia State and he took office on January 9, 2023.
Okoye is a native of Enugwu-Aguleri. He relocated to the United States in 1981. He started his struggle as a security guard. He found his way to the college where he became a civil engineer and eventually founded a company called Essex Geoscientist. Okoye is married with four children and has been living in Atlanta, the headquarters of Gwinnett County, since 1992.
In 2010, Gabe Okoye and his wife participated in the Million Dollar Money Drop gameshow. Okoye is a Democrat and he became the Gwinnett party chairman in 2016. In 2018, he recorded massive wins that captured 13 seats out of the 25 seats available in the county. This historic wins made the Georgia House of Representatives with Resolution 313 of 2019 declared November 6 of 2019 as Gabe Okoye Leadership Day.
Gabe Okoye has lived in Lawrenceville since 1992, raising his children, who graduated from Gwinnett County Public Schools alongside his wife Agnes. A lifelong Democrat and former Chairman of the Gwinnett County Democratic Party, Gabe was integral towards bringing new diverse, and progressive elected leadership to Gwinnett County and protecting our voting rights.
A professional engineer, Gabe believes that every problem can be solved, and we need a thoughtful, collaborative approach to tackle the challenges we face. Gabe immigrated from Nigeria to pursue the American dream, and through hard work and the support of the community here in Gwinnett County has been able to achieve success as a small business owner of a civil engineering company. He has served our diverse community on the Gwinnett County Planning Commission, and as past Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Organization in the Americas.
Gabe has made public service an important part of his career, Now he’s running for Georgia State House in the new State House District 102, which covers the city of Lawrenceville, to ensure this district has strong progressive leadership that is focused on helping all of our families thrive and achieve the American dream in Gwinnett, and throughout the entire state.
