Senator Matt Brass, a Republican, was first elected in November 2016 to serve Senate District 28, which includes Coweta and Heard County and portions of Douglas and Fulton County.

Senator Matt Brass, a Republican, was first elected in November 2016 to serve Senate District 28, which includes Coweta and Heard County and portions of Douglas and Fulton County.

Sen. Brass was raised in Newnan where he attended Newnan High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, and upon completion of his service, he graduated from the University of Georgia. After UGA, Sen. Brass spent seven years as a golf club professional, then worked as a field representative and Chief of Staff for Congressman Lynn Westmoreland before his election to the Georgia Senate.

In November of 2022, Sen. Brass was elected by his Republican colleagues to serve as Majority Caucus Vice Chair for the 2023 Legislative Session. Sen. Brass serves as Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee and also serves as Secretary of the Senate Committee on Children and Families and a member of the Senate Committees on Health and Human Services and Regulated Industries and Utilities. In addition, Sen. Brass serves as Ex Officio of the Senate Committees on Education and Youth and Natural Resources and the Environment.

Sen. Brass is active in his community where he served on several local boards including Communities in Schools-Coweta; Elevate, Leadership Coweta, Coweta Community Foundation, the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity, Newnan Rotary, and as a Deacon at Newnan Presbyterian Church. He was a founding member of Heard County FFA Alumni Association and is a member of American Legion Post 57 and a member of the Leadership Georgia Class of 2023.

Sen. Brass and his wife Maegan have been married since 2007 and have two sons, Freeman and Archie, and a daughter, Rinny.
