Senator RaShaun Kemp

Senator RaShaun Kemp is a dedicated public servant representing Georgia’s State Senate District 38. His journey to the Senate is marked by a commitment to education, community service, and advocacy for civil rights. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Kemp’s early life was shaped by the values instilled in him by his great-grandmother, who raised him and inspired his dedication to public service.

Kemp is a first-generation college graduate, earning his bachelor’s degree from Wright State University in 2003 and a graduate degree from Capella University in 2008. His professional career is diverse and impactful, having served as a high school teacher, principal, and nonprofit executive director. He has led a state education department and worked as a Government Affairs professional, focusing on amplifying the voices of Black and Brown public charter school leaders.

In addition to his professional achievements, Kemp is deeply involved in his community. He has served as Chair of Neighborhood Planning Unit K and is an alumnus of New Leaders Council Atlanta. His commitment to community service is evident through his volunteer work, including food distribution in Douglas County and community cleanups in Fulton County. Kemp is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.

Kemp’s dedication to education and civil rights extends to his board memberships with organizations such as the Lillies Foundation, Ivy Preparatory Academy for Girls, and Georgia Equality. His leadership and advocacy have made a significant impact on the lives of many in his community.

A resident of Atlanta for over a decade, Kemp is happily married to Ken Kemp, a middle school counselor and administrator in East Point. They are the proud parents of two children, Brooklyn and Jaden. The Kemps attend Impact United Methodist Church and enjoy spending time with their families in Dublin, Georgia, and Columbus, Ohio. In his free time, Senator Kemp enjoys staying up on the latest in politics, traveling, watching football, and playing tennis.
