Sheila Jones, an American politician and member of the Democratic Party, assumed office on January 9, 2023, as a representative of District 60 in the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Sheila Jones was sworn into office on January 10, 2005, to represent portions of Fulton and Cobb counties in Georgia. Rep. Jones serves as Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus. She currently serves as a member on the Appropriations Higher Education Sub-Committee, Health, Juvenile Justice and Transportation committees. During her time in the House, Rep. Jones has served as the vice-chair of the Atlanta Delegation, vice-chair of the House Transportation Subcommittee on Rail, parliamentarian, secretary and treasurer of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and secretary of the Working Families Caucus.

Before serving in the Georgia House of Representatives, Rep. Jones worked for Lockheed Martin Company, where she was an active member of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers AFL-CIO Local Lodge 709. In the Local 709, she held several leadership positions, including shop steward, grand lodge convention delegate, women’s convention delegate and bylaws committee chair. She also served on the legislative committee and executive board, becoming the first female trustee for her union. She was later elected as the legislative representative for the Georgia State Council of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (AFL-CIO). In this role, she represented more than 9,000 working men and women throughout the state of Georgia and met with both state and national lawmakers to discuss issues affecting working families, such as raising the minimum wage, unemployment benefits and workers compensation.

After 34 years of distinguished service, she retired from Lockheed Martin Company.

After being elected to the House, Rep. Jones was awarded Freshman Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus.

Several organizations have also recognized Rep. Jones for her legislative service of over the past decade, including the Cobb Democratic Women (Woman Legislator of the Year), Georgia Conservation Voters (Environmental Leadership Award), Cobb County Democratic Committee (the Joe Mack Wilson People’s Champion Award) and the Council on Aging.
