Terry Cummings is a member of the Democratic Party and represents District 39 in the Georgia House of Representatives. She assumed office on January 9, 2023, and her current term ends on January 13, 2025. Cummings ran for election to the Georgia House of Representatives to represent District 39 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Born in the Bronx, New York, Cummings earned a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in 1982 and a J.D. from Georgetown University in 1991. Her career experience includes working as an attorney, a law enforcement officer, and a professor.

Cummings has been affiliated with several organizations including the ABA, the NBA, NOBLE, NABCJ, GABWA, Cobb Democrats, the Kiwanis Club, the Mableton Improvement Coalition, the Austell Community Task Force, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Some of her career highlights include representing the Federal Bureau of Prisons during post-trial hearings of the infamous El Rukn gang, which was the largest gang trial in Chicago’s history. She also represented the agency during the first federal death penalty case in Georgia for the murder of a correctional officer at USP Atlanta.

As a legislator, Cummings was assigned to the following committees: Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee, Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, and State Properties Committee.

In the general election for Georgia House of Representatives District 39, Terry Cummings defeated Olivia Angel on November 8, 2022. She also defeated Monica DeLancy in the Democratic primary runoff for Georgia House of Representatives District 39 on June 21, 2022.
