Angus L.K. McKelvey was born in 1968 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Hawaii State Senate since November 2022, representing District 6. Prior to this, he served in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 2006 to 2022, representing District 10.

McKelvey’s educational background includes a B.A. in political science from Whittier College and a J.D. from Concord School of Law. His political career has been marked by several successful election campaigns. In 2006, he challenged incumbent Democratic Representative Kam Tanaka for the District 10 seat and won the Democratic Primary with 59.3% of the votes. He went on to win the General election with 54.4% of the votes against Republican nominee Ben Azman.

In 2008, McKelvey was unopposed for the Democratic Primary and won the General election with 60.8% of the votes against Republican nominee Ramon Madden. In 2010, he was again unopposed for the Democratic Primary and won the General election with 61.0% of the votes against Madden.

In 2012, McKelvey won the Democratic Primary with 66.8% of the votes and won the General election with 63.9% of the votes against Republican nominee Chayne Marten. He has also served on several committees during his tenure in the Hawaii House of Representatives, including the Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs Committee, Pandemic & Disaster Preparedness Committee, and Government Reform Committee, among others.

In November 2022, McKelvey ran for election to the Hawaii State Senate to represent District 6 and won. His current term ends on November 5, 2024.
