Representative Jack Nelsen Contact information

Jack Sonnich Nelsen, known as Jack Nelsen, is an American politician, retired music teacher, and dairy farmer. He is currently serving as a representative for District 26B in the Idaho House of Representatives since 2022.

Born and raised in Idaho, Jack Nelsen has a deep connection with his home state. He has a rich educational background with an A.A. in music from the College of Southern Idaho, a B.A. in music from the University of Redlands, and an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Boise State University.

Before his political career, Jack Nelsen was a partner in a dairy and farming operation in Jerome for 45 years. His love for music was evident in his role as a part-time instructor for the College of Southern Idaho pep band and classroom music for more than 20 years. He also served as a general music and band teacher for Wendell School District for three years.

In addition to his professional career, Jack Nelsen has been actively involved in his community. He served on the Jerome County Planning and Zoning Commission for 20 years, where he was a past chair. He was also a part of the Mid-Snake Water Commission and the Jerome County Republican Central Committee, where he was a past chair as well.

Jack Nelsen has been a board member of the College of Southern Idaho Foundation and a past president of the Jerome Rotary Club. He served on the College of Southern Idaho Board of Trustees for six years.

In his personal life, Jack Nelsen enjoys fly fishing, fly tying, skiing, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is married to Emily, and they have been together for 42 years. They have three children: Chris and partner Toni – who have three girls; Greg and partner Leah; Matt and wife Velia – who have two girls.

As a representative, Jack Nelsen is a member of several committees including Agricultural Affairs, Education, and Resources & Conservation. His tenure began in 2022 and his current term ends in 2024.
