Mike Pohanka is a dedicated public servant and a proud native of Idaho. Born in Twin Falls, Idaho, he is a first-generation American, with his parents having emigrated from Czechoslovakia and Germany. His father escaped from Czechoslovakia in the late 1940s to flee communism, instilling in Mike a strong sense of work ethic and determination.

Mike Pohanka’s educational journey began at Twin Falls High School. He then pursued higher education at the College of Southern Idaho, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree. He continued his academic pursuits at Lewis-Clark State College, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in management. Mike furthered his education by earning a Master of Arts degree in management from City University.

Throughout his career, Mike has demonstrated a commitment to both his professional and community endeavors. He retired from Idaho Power and also served as a professor of economics at the College of Southern Idaho. His dedication to community service is evident through his involvement in various organizations. Mike has held leadership positions such as past president of the Jerome Chamber of Commerce, Twin Falls Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary Club. He has been recognized for his contributions with awards such as the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, Citizen of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Award from the Jerome Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his professional and community roles, Mike Pohanka serves as a chaplain for the Idaho State Police, Jerome County Sheriff’s Office, and Jerome City Police. He is also the executive director of Jerome 20/20 Economic Development. Mike’s commitment to volunteerism is reflected in his motto: “Volunteerism is the rent you pay for the space you occupy on this earth.”

Mike Pohanka’s political career began when he was elected to the Idaho House of Representatives, representing District 26A.
