Richard W. "Rick" Cheatum is a representative of the Idaho House of Representatives, serving District 28A. He is a member of the Republican Party and assumed office on December 1, 2022. His current term ends on December 1, 2024.

Richard W. “Rick” Cheatum is a representative of the Idaho House of Representatives, serving District 28A. He is a member of the Republican Party and assumed office on December 1, 2022. His current term ends on December 1, 2024.

Born in western Kansas, Rick was raised on a farm before moving to Idaho in 1977. He earned a B.S. in broadcast journalism from the University of Kansas. Before retiring in 2017, he worked in various fields including radio, automobile sales, and credit unions.

Rick has a long history of public service. He was elected to the Pocatello City Council in 2017 and 2021, where he currently serves as council president. He also serves as council liaison to several organizations including the Pocatello Airport Commission, Bannock Transportation Planning Organization, Pocatello Development Authority, and Historic Downtown Pocatello.

In addition to his council duties, Rick is the regional director of the Association of Idaho Cities. He has served as a precinct committeeman and past treasurer for the Bannock County GOP. He is a member and past president of Portneuf Valley Partners and the Chamber Chiefs. He has also served as a board member and board chair for the Idaho Central Credit Union.

Rick’s contributions to his community have been recognized with several awards. He was named the Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year and the Idaho State University College of Education Volunteer of the Year. He has twice received the Award of Merit from the Region 5 supervisor for Idaho Fish and Game.

An avid hunter, shooter, and reloader, Rick is a life member of the NRA. He has served as a member and chair of the Region 5 Idaho Fish and Game Wildlife Feeding Committee.

On a personal note, Rick has been married to Debra for 32 years. They have a daughter, Nicole, and a step-son, Tony.
