Laura Fine, born in 1967, is a Democratic member of the Illinois Senate for the 9th district. She has been serving in this role since January 6, 2019. Prior to her tenure in the Senate, Fine represented the 17th district of the Illinois House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. She also served as Northfield Township Clerk.

Fine was born and raised in Glenview, Illinois. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Indiana University, where she earned a B.A. in telecommunications. After her graduation, she embarked on a career in journalism where she produced, wrote, reported, and anchored news shows.

Later, Fine decided to further her education and received a master’s degree in political science from Northeastern Illinois University. She also taught courses in American Government and the Constitution at the same university.

In her personal life, Fine is married to Michael and they have two sons. They reside in Glenview, Illinois.

On July 28, 2017, Fine announced her intention to run for the senate seat being vacated by Daniel Biss. She ran unopposed in the primary and won the 2018 general election. She took office on January 6, 2019, finishing out the remaining days of Biss’ Senate term before starting her own on January 9.

As of July 2022, Senator Fine is a member of several Illinois Senate committees. These include the Appropriations - Human Services Committee, Behavioral and Mental Health Committee, Environment and Conservation Committee, Health Committee, Healthcare Access and Availability Committee, Insurance Committee, Redistricting - Northwest Cook County Committee, Subcommittee on Managed Care Organizations, and Subcommittee on Medicaid. She serves as the Chairwoman of the Appropriations - Human Services Committee and the Redistricting - Northwest Cook County Committee.
