Representative Austin Harris
Austin Rex Harris, born in 1995 or 1996, is an American politician from the state of Iowa. He is a member of the Republican Party and was elected to represent the 26th district in the Iowa House of Representatives in the 2022 election.
Harris was born and raised on his family’s farm in Moulton, Iowa. He spent his summers and weekends doing chores, feeding and working cattle, fixing fences, and doing any job that needed to be done. He attended Moulton-Udell High School and later earned an associate’s degree from Indian Hills Community College in 2015. His career experience includes working as a farmer.
In the 2022 election, Harris ran for election to the Iowa House of Representatives to represent District 26. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022. He assumed office on January 1, 2023, and his current term ends on January 1, 2025.
During his tenure, Harris has been assigned to several committees including the House Agriculture Committee, Labor Committee, House State Government Committee, where he serves as Vice Chair, and the House Ways and Means Committee.
In the 2022 Republican primary for Iowa House of Representatives District 26, Harris defeated Mark Chelgren with 54.9% of the votes. In the general election for Iowa House of Representatives District 26, Harris won with 98.5% of the votes.
Harris has endorsed Nikki Haley for the 2024 Republican Party presidential primaries.
