Senator Carrie Koelker
Carrie Koelker is a distinguished member of the Iowa State Senate, representing the 33rd District. A member of the Republican Party, she has been serving in the Iowa Senate since 2019. She currently resides in Dyersville, Iowa.
Born in 1970, Carrie Koelker has a rich career history that includes significant contributions to the tourism industry. She worked at the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (now Travel Dubuque) from 1994-2000 and most recently served as the executive director of Eastern Iowa Tourism.
In her role as the Vice President of Community Engagement for Travel Dubuque, she worked closely with regional attractions, travel destinations, and industry leaders. She takes pride in promoting Iowa’s people and places, whether it is small town hospitality or big city excitement. Her experience in economic development provides her with the knowledge and experience to benefit economic development efforts in rural Iowa.
As of February 2020, Senator Koelker serves on several committees: Commerce (Vice Chair), Appropriations, Labor and Business Relations, Transportation, and Veterans Affairs. She also serves on the Education Appropriations Subcommittee, as well as the Enhance Iowa Board, the Iowa Finance Authority, and the Midwestern Higher Education Compact.
Senator Koelker is a lifelong Iowan and a mother of four. She is deeply engaged with her community, serving on the board of the Dyersville Area Community Foundation, the Iowa Tourism Industry Partners, Enhance Iowa, Iowa Finance Authority and the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
In the 2018 Iowa Senate 29th District election, Carrie Koelker secured a victory with 53.5% of the votes, marking a Republican gain from the Democratic party. She succeeded Tod Bowman to represent the 29th District from 2019 to 2023. She then succeeded Rob Hogg to represent the 33rd District from 2023 onwards.
