Charley Thomson is a member of the Republican Party and currently represents District 58 in the Iowa House of Representatives. He assumed office on January 1, 2023, and his current term is set to end on January 1, 2025.

Thomson’s journey into politics was not a conventional one. Before his first term in the Iowa House, he had never held elected office before. He is a political outsider, a characteristic that sets him apart from many of his peers. In addition to serving as an Iowa Representative, he is also a lawyer and businessman with more than 35 years of experience working in the private sector.

Thomson’s career experience includes working as an attorney. He graduated from Charles City Community High School in 1978. He was awarded an A.B. with honors from the College of Literature, Arts, and Sciences of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1983. He received his J.D. with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1987.

In the 2022 elections, Thomson ran for election to the Iowa House of Representatives to represent District 58. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022. In the Republican primary for the same, he defeated Jim Wright and Sean Galleger on June 7, 2022.

As a legislator, Thomson has been assigned to several committees including the House Commerce Committee, House Judiciary Committee, and House Transportation Committee. His base salary as a legislator is $25,000 per year, with a per diem of $175/day for legislators who live outside of Polk County and $131.25/day for legislators who live within Polk County.

Thomson is committed to promoting economic development and fighting government overreach. He believes in cutting the red tape to promote economic development in his district. He is also a staunch advocate for freedom and continues to fight against government overreach. He is a Constitutional Conservative and has a proven record of calling out schemes to micromanage lives and rob freedoms.

Lastly, Thomson is passionate about education. He is concerned about the indoctrination of youth in public schools and the propagation of far-left propaganda. He is committed to expanding educational freedom and ensuring that the ability to teach children is taken back.
