Cherielynn Westrich, born on January 21, 1966, is an American politician from the state of Iowa. She was born in Missouri and currently resides in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Career: Before entering politics, Westrich had a diverse career. She was involved in the music industry as a vocalist and keyboardist for The Rentals, as a vocalist and bassist for Supersport 2000, and also as the singer for The Slow Signal Fade. Westrich has appeared on the television program Overhaulin’, where she worked on cars. She owns MalWood USA LLC, a manufacturer of hydraulic clutch pedals in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Political Journey: Westrich’s political journey began with her announcement of candidacy for the vacant senate seat in District 13 following the passage of the (second) redistricting map in October 2021. She has served as a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from the 81st district from January 11, 2021, to January 8, 2023. She was succeeded by Luana Stoltenberg in this role.

She assumed office as a member of the Iowa Senate from the 13th district on January 9, 2023. Her tenure has been marked by her commitment to her constituents and her party’s values.

Electoral History: In the 2018 Iowa House general election, Westrich ran as a Republican candidate for District 81. Although she lost to Democratic candidate Mary Gaskill, she made a strong showing with 45.5% of the vote.

In the 2020 Iowa House general election, Westrich again ran as a Republican candidate for District 81. This time, she won the election with 53.05% of the vote, defeating incumbent Mary Gaskill.

In the 2022 Iowa Senate general election, Westrich ran for the District 13 seat. She won the election with 64.89% of the vote, defeating Democratic candidate Matt Greiner.
