Senator Chris Cournoyer
Chris Cournoyer is a prominent figure in Iowa politics, serving as the State Senator from the 35th District. A member of the Republican Party, she has been serving in the Iowa Senate since 2019. She was born in 1970 and currently resides in Le Claire, Iowa.
Before her political career, Cournoyer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from the University of Texas. After college, she worked as a senior consultant in the Technology Division at Andersen Consulting, serving in the Ecommerce Community of Practice. Since 1997, Cournoyer has been working as a self-employed website designer and developer. Recently, she got her substitute authorization and is helping with the substitute teacher shortage in school districts in her area.
In addition to her professional career, Cournoyer has been actively involved in her community. She formerly served as the President of the Pleasant Valley Community School District School Board. She is also a reserve deputy for the Scott County Sheriff’s Department and an NRA Certified Basic Pistol Instructor. She has been a member and past president of the Pleasant Valley Community School District, Board of Directors.
Cournoyer has been involved in numerous ways in her community throughout the years, including being a member of the North Scott Rotary Club, Group Study Exchange Participant to Bavaria, Germany, Cub Scout Pack 88 Den Leader; Executive Board Member, Quad City Engineering & Science Council, Past President, Executive Board, Communications Chair, Friends of the LeClaire Community Library, Past President, Secretary, Board Member, and many more.
In her political career, Cournoyer has held several key positions. As of February 2020, Cournoyer serves on the following committees: Education (Vice Chair), Natural Resources and Environment, State Government, and Transportation. She also serves on the Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee, as well as the Early Childhood Iowa State Board, and the Research and Development School Advisory Council.
Cournoyer’s electoral history is also noteworthy. In the Iowa Senate 49th District election in 2018, she received 13,305 votes, which accounted for 54.9% of the total votes, leading to a Republican gain from Democratic.
