Senator Eric Giddens
Eric Giddens, born on November 9, 1973, is an American politician serving in the Iowa Senate as a member for the 38th District. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Giddens’ political career began when he was elected to the Senate’s 30th district, defeating Republican Walt Rogers in a special election held on March 19, 2019. This election was held after incumbent senator Jeff Danielson resigned.
Before his political career, Giddens was a member of the Cedar Falls, Iowa School Board and a program director at the University of Northern Iowa’s Center for Energy and Environmental Education. His work at the university involved leading a program to help local governments increase environmental sustainability and resilience practices.
As of February 2020, Giddens serves on several committees: Education, State Government, Transportation, Veterans Affairs, and Ways and Means. He also serves on the Tax Credit Review Committee, as well as the Education Commission of the States, and the Research and Development School Advisory Council.
Giddens is known for his commitment to high quality K-12 public schools, affordable and accessible healthcare, and good jobs for Black Hawk, Tama, and Benton Counties. His dedication to these causes has made him a respected figure in his community and beyond.
