Jack Whitver, born on September 4, 1980, in Knoxville, Iowa, is an American businessman and politician. He is currently serving as the Iowa State Senator for the 23rd District and has been the Senate Majority Leader since 2018.

Whitver’s journey began in Grinnell, Iowa. He later moved to Ames, Iowa, to attend Iowa State University. At Iowa State, he was a three-year starter as a wide receiver for the Iowa State Cyclones football team. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in 2002 and an MBA in 2003 from Iowa State University. He furthered his education by earning a Juris Doctor from Drake University in 2012.

In addition to his political career, Whitver is also a successful entrepreneur. He founded Acceleration Iowa, a sports training business that develops speed, quickness, and overall athletic ability for young athletes, in 2004. He expanded the business by adding new locations in 2007 and 2009. In 2012, he bought CrossFit Des Moines and CrossFit Waukee and opened North Ankeny CrossFit.

Whitver also has experience in the legal field. He is an attorney with the Des Moines law firm Whitaker Hagenow & Gustoff.

Whitver’s political career began when he was elected to the Iowa State Senate from District 35 on January 18, 2011, in a special election. After the redistricting of 2012, Whitver represented District 19 in the State Senate. Following another redistricting in 2022, Whitver now represents District 23.

Throughout his political career, Whitver has held several leadership positions. He served as the President of the Iowa Senate from 2017 to 2018. He assumed the role of Majority Leader of the Iowa Senate in March 2018, a position he holds to this day.
