Representative Larry McBurney

Larry McBurney is a dedicated public servant and a prominent figure in Iowa politics. Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, McBurney has always been deeply connected to his community. After high school, McBurney joined the U.S. Air National Guard, where he served from 2003 to 2015. In 2024, McBurney decided to run for the Iowa House of Representatives, representing District 44. He faced a competitive primary against Jason Menke but emerged victorious, securing the Democratic Party nomination. In the general election, McBurney defeated Libertarian Party candidate Jake Heard, earning a seat in the Iowa House of Representatives.

As a state representative, McBurney has been a strong advocate for veterans’ affairs, labor and workforce issues, local government, and economic development. He serves on several key committees, including the Labor and Workforce, Local Government, Veterans Affairs, and Ways and Means committees.
