Senator Liz Bennett Contact information

Liz Bennett is an American politician and a member of the Iowa Senate from the 39th District. She initially served in the Iowa House of Representatives for the 65th District after being elected in the 2014 elections. She is currently a member of the Democratic Party. She is the first out LGBT woman to serve in Iowa’s state legislature.

Liz Bennett was elected to her first term in the Iowa Senate in 2022 after serving four terms in the Iowa House. She represents Senate District 39, which includes most of Cedar Rapids as well as College Township. Liz earned a double major in Politics and Women’s Studies with a Pre-Law emphasis from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA.

Professionally, Liz has worked with LGBT advocacy organization, One Iowa, and has experience in the private sector working with Yellow Book and the internet company Go Daddy. She currently works for web company Wix.com. Liz is an active member of AFM Local 137.

Liz’s advocacy has led her to be recognized as Advocate of the Year by One Iowa and with the Judy Rutledge Legislative Courage Award from Planned Parenthood. She has also received the Advocate of the Year award from Iowa Safe Schools, the Pride Woman of the Year award from Des Moines Pride, and she was a Female First Honoree from the Young Women’s Resource center.

Outside of legislative and private sector work, Sen. Bennett enjoys volunteering for the German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Iowa. Liz serves on the following committees: Technology (Ranking Member), Natural Resources and Environment, Transportation, Veterans Affairs, Transportation, Infrastructure, and Capitals Appropriations Subcommittee.
