Phil Thompson is an American politician serving as a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from the 48th district. Thompson was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in November 2018 and assumed office on January 14, 2019.

Phil Thompson is an American politician serving as a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from the 48th district. He was born in Jefferson, Iowa in 1991 and graduated from Jefferson-Scranton High School.

After high school, Thompson enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an infantry officer during the Iraq War. He later returned to Iowa and joined the Iowa National Guard. In addition to his military service, Thompson also studied systems engineering at the United States Military Academy for two years.

Thompson’s career experience includes working as a general contractor, an Iowa campaign field representative with the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action, and an assistant to former Iowa State Representative Dawn Pettengill. He has served on the Bob Carman Patriot Scholarship Board and the Floyd W. Brown Scholarship Board, and has been affiliated with the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Greene County Republican Central Committee.

Thompson was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in November 2018 and assumed office on January 14, 2019. He has served on several committees including the House Commerce Committee, House Government Oversight Committee, House Judiciary Committee, Public Safety Committee, and House Ways and Means Committee. He has also sponsored numerous bills during his tenure.

Thompson ran for re-election to the Iowa House of Representatives to represent District 48 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022. His current term ends on January 1, 2025.
