Tony Bisignano, born on May 14, 1952, is an American politician and state senator from the state of Iowa. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Alfonso and Rose Bisignano. He graduated from Dowling High School in 1970. After high school, Bisignano attended the University of Northern Iowa and Grandview College. He also attended Drake University in Des Moines.

Bisignano first served in the Iowa House from 1987 to 1993, and then in the Senate from 1993 to 1997. He was reelected in 2014. He has been a member of the Iowa Senate from the 15th district since January 12, 2015. His constituency includes the 15th District (2023-Present), 17th District (2015-2023), and 34th District (1993-1997). He also served as a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from the 80th district from January 12, 1987 – January 10, 1993.

In his professional life, Bisignano worked in various jobs for Polk County, Iowa and was president of AFSCME Local 1868, eventually becoming a project manager for the Polk County Board of Supervisors. He is a member of the Italian/American Cultural Center and is a past board member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Des Moines.

Bisignano is married to Kimberly Caudill. They have two daughters, Emily and Allison. Their son Nick was tragically killed in an auto accident. In memory of his son, Bisignano started the Nick Bisignano Foundation to promote responsible choices among young people. Bisignano is a Roman Catholic and worships at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Bisignano has lived on the south side of Des Moines his whole life. He’s the son of an Italian immigrant and grew up in Des Moines’s Little Italy neighborhood. He first ran for elected office at age 24. Tony began working for Polk County at 21 in environmental sanitation and restaurant inspection. He was a policy adviser and project manager for 17 years with Polk County, and then Human Resources director, retiring after 41 years. He served seven years as president of his local AFSCME union.

Tony Bisignano was re-elected to the Iowa Senate from District 15 in 2022. Tony is serving his third consecutive term representing south-central Des Moines in Polk County. In the 1980s and ‘90s, Tony served three terms in the Iowa House and a single term in the Iowa Senate, where he was named Senate President Pro Tem.
