Representative Boog Highberger
Dennis “Boog” Highberger was born on September 26, 1959, in Garnett, Kansas, U.S. He is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party. He has served as a City Council member in Lawrence, Kansas from 2003 through 2009 and was the city’s mayor from 2005 through 2006.
Highberger graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1992. He was an attorney with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) from 1992 to 2011. He has been a Democratic member for the 46th district in the Kansas House of Representatives since 2015. His current term ends on January 13, 2025.
During his tenure, Highberger has been involved in various committees. He has served as the Vice-chair of Rules and Journal and the Ranking minority member of Corrections and Juvenile Justice. He has also been a part of the Judiciary, Federal and State Affairs, Joint Committee on Corrections and Juvenile Justice Oversight, 2022 Special Committee on Medical Marijuana, and House Select Investigating Committee.
Highberger has sponsored several bills and resolutions. Some of the notable ones include HB2002 - Enacting the national popular vote interstate compact for electing the president of the United States, HB2006 - Changing the designation of Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day, and HB2117 - Providing for adjusted income tax rates and sales tax treatment for food and food ingredients and feminine hygiene products.
