Brenda Dietrich, born on May 16, 1953, is an American politician and a member of the Republican party. In 2020, she was elected to the Kansas Senate to serve the 20th District.

Brenda Dietrich, born on May 16, 1953, is an American politician and a member of the Republican party. She was born in Colby, Kansas, where her family had a rich history of farming thousands of acres in Thomas County. When she was in 5th grade, her family moved to McPherson, Kansas.

Dietrich graduated from McPherson High School and went on to pursue higher education at Kansas State University. There, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She furthered her education at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education Administration and her Ph.D. in Education Administration with a minor in Business Management.

Before entering politics, Dietrich had a long and successful career in education spanning 40 years. She served in various roles including teacher, building administrator, and Superintendent. She was the Superintendent of the Auburn-Washburn School District in Topeka, Kansas from 2001 to 2015. Her exceptional work in this role led to her being honored as Kansas Superintendent of the year in 2007.

In addition to her professional achievements, Dietrich has been actively involved in the community as a volunteer, serving in many different roles. She is a member of the Topeka South Rotary, where she is a Paul Harris Fellow. She is a strong believer in giving back to the community and is committed to doing so whenever and wherever she can. She is currently active with the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library, Jayhawk Area Council of Boy Scouts, Rotary, Visit Topeka, Kansas Starbase, and United Way.

Dietrich began her political career as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives for the 52nd district, serving from 2017 to 2021. In 2020, she was elected to the Kansas Senate to serve the 20th District. Her previous House District sits almost entirely within the new Senate District. In the Senate, she serves on several committees including Education, Financial Institutions, Insurance, Transportation, and Federal and State Affairs. She also Chairs the Joint Committee on Special Claims Against the State, and serves on the Joint Committee on Pensions, Investments, and Benefits.

Brenda Dietrich is married to Jerry and they have a daughter, Lauren, who graduated from Washburn Rural in 2004 and Kansas State University in 2009.
