Representative Heather Meyer
Heather Meyer, born on August 14, 1980, is an American politician currently serving as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from the 29th district. She assumed office on September 7, 2021, after the resignation of her predecessor, Brett Parker.
Meyer was born in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in Kansas by a single father. She attended Johnson County Community College and received her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Kansas.
Before her political career, Meyer’s professional experience includes working as a social worker in the Kansas City area. She ran for the seat in 2014 and lost before returning to school and earning her social work degree. She currently works for a Kansas City area organization providing services to individuals living with HIV and AIDS.
Meyer is married and has two children. She is openly bisexual and is the state’s fourth openly LGBTQ lawmaker.
In her political career, Meyer has been assigned to several committees including the Insurance and Pensions, Elections, Health and Human Services, and Water Committees. She ran for re-election to the Kansas House of Representatives to represent District 29 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Meyer was appointed to the state House by the Johnson County Democrats on August 24, 2021, to succeed Brett Parker, who resigned that month. Her current term ends on January 13, 2025.
