Representative Henry Helgerson
Henry M. Helgerson, Jr. was born on January 12, 1952, in Wichita, Kansas, U.S. He is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party.
Helgerson has had a long and distinguished career in the Kansas state legislature. He first served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1983 to 2001, representing the 86th district. After a brief hiatus, he returned to politics and served in the Kansas Senate from 2003 to 2004, representing the 28th district.
In 2016, Helgerson once again ran for office and was elected as a representative for the 83rd district in the Kansas House of Representatives, a position he holds to this day.
In addition to his political career, Helgerson is also a businessman. He resides in Wichita, Kansas with his spouse, Nicholi Flynn.
Throughout his political career, Helgerson has been involved in various committees. He has served as the Ranking minority member on the Appropriations committee and the Legislative Budget committee. He has also been a part of the Taxation committee, the Health Care Stabilization Fund Oversight Committee, the Special Committee on Taxation, and the Special Committee on Mental Health Beds.
Helgerson has sponsored several bills during his tenure, including HB2150, which aimed at repealing the zoning and planning authority for cities in the three-mile area extending from the city boundaries, and HB2162, which proposed a sales tax exemption for hygiene products. He also sponsored HB2729, which sought to enact the Kansas specie legal tender act and the Kansas bullion depository act.
