Jo Ella Hoye is an American politician serving as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from the 17th district. She was elected in November 2020 and assumed office on January 11, 2021.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Hoye graduated from Nebraska City High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas.

Before her political career, Hoye worked as a senior analyst for the Johnson County manager’s office. She also served as a member and vice chair of the Lenexa Planning Commission Advisory Board.

In addition to her political role, Hoye was a representative for the Kansas chapter of Moms Demand Action, a gun control group. In the House, she has advocated for stricter gun control regulations, including an amendment that would repeal permitless concealed carry in Kansas.

Hoye was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell College in 2006 and a master’s degree from the University of Kansas in 2009. Hoye’s career experience includes working as a senior analyst for the Johnson County Manager’s Office.

In the 2023-2024 term, Hoye was assigned to the following committees: House Federal and State Affairs Committee, House Transportation Committee, and the Transportation and Public Safety Budget Committee. In the 2021-2022 term, Hoye was assigned to the Children and Seniors Committee, House Federal and State Affairs Committee, and the K-12 Education Budget Committee.

Hoye ran for re-election to the Kansas House of Representatives to represent District 17. She won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
