John Alcala was born on May 23, 1959. He is a member of the Democratic Party and has been serving as a representative of the 57th district of the Kansas House of Representatives since January 14, 2013. The 57th district includes Topeka, Kansas in Shawnee County, Kansas.

John Alcala is a graduate of both Topeka High School and Washburn University. His commitment to public service began with his tenure on the Topeka City Council, where he served for 14 years. After his time on the city council, he took on the role of Deputy Mayor of the city.

In addition to his role as a representative, John Alcala has been assigned to various committees throughout his tenure.
