Representative Paul Waggoner
Paul Waggoner is an American politician and businessman who is currently serving as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from the 104th district. He was elected in 2018 and assumed office in 2019.
Education: Paul Waggoner earned a Bachelor of Science in business from the University of Kansas and a Master of Arts in history from Trinity International University.
Career: Before entering politics, Waggoner owned and managed Waggoners, Inc., a cushioning and upholstery business based in Hutchinson, Kansas. Waggoner also served as a precinct committeeman of Medora Township, Reno County, Kansas. In the 2018 Republican primary for the 104th district in the Kansas House of Representatives, Waggoner defeated incumbent Steven Becker by nine points. He then defeated Democratic nominee Garth Strand in the November general election. Waggoner defeated Strand again in the 2020 November general election.
Personal Life: Paul is a native of Hutchinson, Kansas. He attended Hutchinson Public Schools first at Graber Elementary, then Central Junior High School, and finally Hutchinson High School. Paul returned to Hutchinson in 1984 to join the family business, Waggoners, Inc. The business has over 20 employees and Paul is now President of the firm. Waggoners, Inc. is a proud member of the Reno Country Chamber of Commerce. Paul attends Crossroads Christian Church and is a former Boy Scout leader and Scoutmaster. He has also served as a church board member; trustee, and on the Board of Directors for Open Door Pregnancy Care Center. Paul is an active part of the Reno County GOP and graduated from the Kansas Republican Men’s Leadership Series in 2017. He has been a NRA member for years. Paul was active in the Awaken Hutchinson movement of 2011-2012 and was the designated conservative “Community Columnist” for the Hutchinson News from 2014 to 2018. His columns were noted for their solid research, informative content, sharp reasoning, and sly humor. Paul and his wife, Deb, have been married for over 40 years and live in the Buhler school district. They have three grown children (Andrew, Elizabeth, and Zoe) and all three attended Hutchinson, and/or Buhler Public Schools. They now have five young grandchildren and a dog named Gus.
