Tobias Schlingensiepen, born on November 24, 1963, is a member of the Democratic Party and a representative of the 55th district in the Kansas House of Representatives. He assumed office on January 9, 2023, and his current term is set to end on January 13, 2025.

Schlingensiepen was elected in the 2022 general election, following the retirement of the Democratic incumbent representative Annie Kuether. Prior to his political career, Schlingensiepen earned a B.A. in classical languages from the University of Kansas in 1986.

In addition to his political career, Schlingensiepen has a rich professional background. He has served as a senior minister with the First Congregational Church of Topeka, Kansas, a secretary of Communities Creating Opportunity, and the treasurer of the Kansas Democratic Party. He has also served as a volunteer chaplain with the Topeka Police Department and the chair and vice chair of the Topeka Center for Peace and Justice.

In the 2023-2024 legislative session, Schlingensiepen was assigned to several committees, including the Agriculture Committee, Corrections and Juvenile Justice Committee, Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications Committee, and Pensions, Investments and Benefits Committee.

Schlingensiepen grew up in Topeka where he attended public schools and graduated from Topeka West High School. He went on to attend Washburn University before graduating from the University of Kansas. Since 2005, he has served as the Senior Pastor of the First Congregational Church in Topeka.

Throughout his career, Schlingensiepen has demonstrated a commitment to public service and has made significant contributions to his community and state. His work in the Kansas House of Representatives continues to reflect this commitment.
